Small airport with limited facilities for transit passengers. I had a 7-hour layover here and it was quite a struggle. Since there is no luggage storage and we unexpectedly had to re-check our bags, we couldn't leave to visit the city. The terminal felt cramped and public seating is very scarce. Service and language were major issues: • The staff at the information desk were rude and unhelpful. • At check-in, the staff spoke very little English. • In the souvenir shops, no English was spoken at all. Thankfully, the Air France lounge was a decent place to wait and offered a much-needed break.
I arrived at Cayenne Airport three hours early, and before I could even check in, I was stopped by a group of custom officers (with a sniffer dog). What followed was the most unprofessional and disrespectful “security check” I have ever experienced in any airport. About 3–5 officers took turns questioning me, searching my belongings, and even conducting an intrusive pat-down. They went through my passport, documents, cash, and clothes, yet showed no professionalism at all. Instead, they behaved in a joking and mocking manner, asking irrelevant questions that had nothing to do with security. The entire process lasted almost 100 minutes, and in the end they found absolutely nothing—because there was nothing to find. They released me while laughing among themselves, as if the whole thing was some kind of joke. I have traveled through hundreds of airports around the world, and this was by far the most absurd and unacceptable experience. I truly hope I was just an isolated case, because if this had caused me to miss my flight, I would have left this place with lifelong resentment. At least I managed to board my flight in the end. But this level of unprofessional behavior is completely unacceptable for an international airport.
By far the most disrespectful airport in the world . Posters of wifi everywhere but no Wi-Fi. AF tells you to arrive 4 hours early and then no place to sit except the restaurant. No plugs before air side. No flight signs to check in so you wait in line only to be told to elsewhere. Then they send away to do security check and then another like for luggage X-ray - before you even check in. Then back in line to check in then another police control then you have to wait for the security team conference before they start letting ppl through. I asked for my water bottle to be filed in nicely - first person said just no. 2nd suggested I go to bathroom and only after asking her or more like begging her it took her 10 seconds to fill the water. Bathroom reek of urine like you are at some back country bus stop. Worst disrespect I got at any airport.
The structure is very limited. It's a small airport, that has two airway bridges ("finger"). I was on a connection and arrived about 11:00 in the late morning. As it's quite far from the city, I preferred to stay at the terminal for my flight até 17:00 in the afternoon. After immigration I ambled out to the exit, as my connection was on a different booking. Once out, I made my way in to the departure terminal (it seems to be a seperate terminal, though it is one building). There, we found one small and rather simple food stall, with some extremely simples options. Not much to go on, but a lunch - snack. To my surprise, the police passed and kicked out all passengers: we had to wait outside of the terminal, in the heat and humidity with luggage and all, as the terminal would only be "open" after 14:00. Then, a sort of unorganized cue formed, until we were allowed in again, after showing our travel documents at a sort of pre check. Finally, (normal) check in... And after that security and emmigration. Once inside, Very simple and a tad more organized. If you are connecting, be prepared... It is not the ideal infrastructure and do not expect to be able to have a Variety of snacks and food. And if you arrive early, be prepared to wait outside of the terminal....
Chaotic and unprofessional police controls 👎. Air France Lounge is so small and there is so hot air… outside the lounge even worser. The only nice thing are the models of ESA space rockets :-)
A disaster, avoid by any means. Personal is rude and incompetent, mostly don't speak any other language (is it an "international" airport or am I missing something?). Almost no place to seat or charge devices. Security is rude and hostile. I don't feel safe there at all. Such a shame.
Good airport, 2 business lounges, no priority pass lounge. If you want to get to the airport by bus, there is a bus number 7, cost is 2 euro, runs from the city center every 40 minutes
The absolute worst airport I have been to so far. We don't even have to talk about the fact that there is nothing besides from car rentals. The problems here are far bigger than lacking infrastructure. I traveled through there about 2 months ago because my flight to Paramaribo was canceled and I decided to fly to Cayenne and travel to Suriname by taxi from there. Getting there was already unpleasant and stressful but I don't even want to talk about that because what happened on my way back is simply scandalous. As I was lining up for check-in over 3 hrs before departure police pulled me out of the line and took my passport. The could barely speak a word in English which should be expected of the airport police. Even when I asked them in my basic French what the problem is they would not say anything besides from 'wait'. After 30 minutes they put me in a police car and took me to a police station outside of the airport. There they put me in a cell. They let me wait there for over 2 hrs without explaining the reason. They continued bringing in other people (only natives) from later flights which were made skip line and interviewed before me. As I was getting more hopeless because my bag check-in already passed and I thought I would miss the flight I continued to ask them always in a hopeless but friendly way if they could take care of my case now. When there were only a couple of minutes until the gate closed one officer spontaneously decided to take me out of the cell ask me two questions in the hallway and gave my passport back to me. They told me to sprint back to the airport. As I arrived in the terminal the lady there told me that it is too late to check in my suitcase and that I have the options to either fly without it or book a new flight which will depart in 5 days, cost several 1000 Euros and I will have to pay. So I opened my suitcase put my most precious items into my hand luggage and looked for airport staff to help me still reach my flight. This only wor
