Review for restaurant only. 8 people, rented e-bikes, a littttllleee bit lost in the countryside. We just couldn’t find it on Google maps - so you know what they did? Sent a staff member in the car to find us. Incredibly gracious staff, friggin’ amazing food, & the beauty of the restaurant in the most gorgeous countryside location. I could go on & on, but THIS is what French dining is about. Local, seasonal food, beautiful modern presentation & a staff that is just delightful, not over the top, but just right. Clean, beautifully decorated, well appointed, terrace for cafe. Oh & get the chocolate fondant dessert. WOW. We all loved the experience. Just go.
I am not going to come back on the design which was covered in the previous reviews. This place is unique, like a nest on a hill. The view and calm are unique. You are self sufficient for two days except fir fresh cake, bred and pastries delivered every morning. A welcome bottle of champagne is offered at arrival. Nice French touch. |A few things could be improved like the bathroom, having an opening window next to the bed could improve the air quality and overall feeling.
Very nice setting in and out, appart from the main restaurant room lightning which was too 80' to me. Staff was welcoming and caring with a natural friendly hinch to it. Food was gorgeous despite quite common ingredients and common French dishes. We were cought by surprise! They were elegantly revisited enhancing the original taste. We also spend the night in a Cadole for a full experience. Part of the surprising experience, works as a whole.
A most magical place in a most beautiful piece of countryside. My wife and myself stayed here at summer start (literally) which in France is also a nationally celebrated music festival. Therefore we were lucky enough to enjoy a wonderful music band while having dinner at the Grand Couvert restaurant. We stayed at the “Rose” cadole, next to the garden, and had a wonderful stay here. The main room is big and overlooks a very nice natural setting. The breakfast comes in a basket delivered to your door, with yummy pastries and cakes. Only drawback is the bathroom, which has not been effectively designed. I recommend that you walk around walking or cycling. There are tons of options. In our case, we picked up the M10 tour which goes around former tile makers and (canal) marine boys places. It’s a 3-hour walk that’s really worth it.
My wife and I stayed for two nights in one of the cadoles at La Colline du Colombier and very much enjoyed our stay. Our cadole was thoughtfully decorated and had an expansive view of the Brionnais. The neighboring restaurant by the same architect is lovely although the food is a little inconsistent (especially for a Troisgros establishment). There are a few things that could be better:||||1. In contrast to the excellent design of the rest of the cadole, the bathroom is not only ugly but also impractical -- it's designed in such a way that water gets everywhere when you take a shower. The bathroom lighting from a single, long fluorescent light bulb is extremely harsh.||||2. No-one cleans the rooms over the course of your stay, not even emptying the trash from the kitchenette trash can. This also means no replacement towels for the ones that get sodden drying the bathroom floor.||||3. Our cadole smelled very strongly of woodsmoke.||||4. In contrast to the pompous "manifesto" left in the room, excellent organic, raw milk is not given to you for dryour breakfast -- instead you receive plain "microfiltré" (super-filtered for longer life)||||These are mostly minor quibbles that deserve to be mentioned, however, given the cost of the rooms and the minimum two night stay.
We were supposed to stay only one nigh at “La Colinne du Colombier” with a scheduled dinner at “Maison Troigros”, we liked the place so much that we extended our stay to one more night (we wanted to stay more but had a flight to catch). The location is amazing, an old farm in the middle of beautiful farming fields, with only 5 rooms - we tried out 2 of the rooms and both were great. The service was impeccable, the food amazing and the wine list surprising. We will return for sure and recommend it to anyone who enjoys good food and wine at an amazing location.
Beautiful place in countryside
Beautiful setting, with a menu which naturally varies as a function of the season, and excellent service. Easily merits a detour
