I loved the hotel and my room. More fin de siecle character than modern hotels Space and a simple charm. But the staff ruined my stay. My bank card hadn't worked on Booking.com even tho the same card has always worked there. So they kept my booking but insisted I pay cash on arrival. When I asked to try my card at reception, the grumpy old guy there refused to let me try. I don't like paying cash- it feels dodgy - tax avoidance? Plus no record for me with my bank. I asked to speak to the manager. But apparently he had a medical emergency and couldn't be called... I insisted on trying my card and lo and behold, it worked, but grumpy receptionist was annoyed from then on. There is no lift at this hotel so he watched me lug my suitcase up 2 floors. I loved my room. It had a wonderful sea view. The only sea view room was a family triple which I paid for. But still cheaper than most other places. As I left my room at 11 the next morning the cleaner immediately told me off for using a blanket off the spare single bed when I had been cold. She stormed past me berating me for messing up the spare bed. She demanded to know why I hadn't used the air con machine instead or the spare blankets in the wardrobes. Except I showed her there weren't any. No apology. Who uses air con then the night when they just need a spare blanket? She was awfully rude. As was the grumpy receptionist. And yet the 2star room was charming. So you decide. Nb I didn't book the breakfast because they made it clear it was very basic continental - bread and jam and not much more, and I didn't want more interaction with rude (and lazy) staff.
Location and convenience right on the promenade and bus is in front. Offers parking secured. Rooms and showers are old needs to update or reno.
Cheap cost, about 70€ a night for a group of three, which is a great deal in Nice. However, the room was well, what you would expect for 70 euros. Mold near the shower, incredibly dated, and mildly dirty. However, the beds were comfortable, and I got a good sleep. Reception was below average, it was easy to get checked in, but they refused to give us additional towels upon request. Plus, the walls were incredibly thin.
The location cannot be faulted. The view online is a little deceiving as it is set back from the rest of the hotels on the road so you have a fairly narrow view of the beach and sea however you can see them nonetheless. The locations simply cannot be faulted. The room is very much in need of some TLC. The shower was awful. Not very powerful and very small with a thin shower curtain which because the shower is so small keeps sticking to you. The shower hose was so warm that if you took it off the hook it would kink and the water stop. The WiFi was also intermittent loosing signal depending where in the room you stand (this was the second floor sea view room). We didn’t have breakfast however breakfast appeared available in a tent out the front of the hotel. Ultimately, if you want a hotel with a superb location however are on a budget and are happy to compromise on the room quality. This is the one for you.
Important you know what you want to get from the hotel in general when you pick this one. There is no coffee or tea, fridge, shower gel, phone, people available after 22 in the reception, hair drier, normal blankets we are used to, a safe. It is very old, bathrooms are poor (but not disgusting), super thin walls, no toilets in some rooms. I would rate this hotel much higher (authentic atmosphere, location, charm, see view, delicious coffee each morning, but.. |The made which works there for years as I assume based on other reviews basically hates all customers. We were demanded to not open the curtains the way we wanted, she shouted at us from the window when we were already outside something about the towels, she accused us in steeling the sugar pot which we never got what the person from the reception confirmed to her). She hang the leftovers of the toilet paper from another room which ours was emptied, she did not fill up with the soap even once (we stayed for 3 days) and the soap was almost gone after day one. |I have heard that’s her last year of work at that hotels after I complained so if you travel in 2025, you are maybe lucky 😂|Otherwise I liked the atmosphere of the room and location was great.
Astounding behavior by the cleaning lady, I'm still surprised thinking back on it. We confirmed with the front desk that checkout is at 11am. On the morning of our departure, the cleaning lady knocked impatiently on our door at 10am telling us it was time to go. I ask isn't there still an hour left and she says yes but you need time to get your baggage ready. That on its own is a ridiculous statement- we don't need our departure to be micromanaged by the hotel staff. At 10:40 she bangs on the door again and tells us to hurry up, it's time to go. I tell her there's clearly still 20 minutes before 11 and she literally yells "shut up" to me to my face ("tais-toi", in case she says it to you and you don't know French). What unhinged behavior. As we walk down at 10:55 to the front desk, we see her waiting there with the receptionist/manager. I guess we were the last room today and she wanted to leave work early? I brought it up to the manager and he just shrugs as if there's nothing he can do about the lady. Weirdest and dumbest interaction I've ever had with hospitality workers. Location is alright but the seaview rooms are deceptively far from the ocean compared with the hotels next door.
Villa Eden is perfect for an intimate, historic boutique hotel experience. Lovely architectural details embue the atmosphere with nostalgic whispers of yesteryear. Stunning sea views from Promenade facing upper levels. For travelers seeking a full service resort experience with a bellhop and elevator, it would be best to make another choice. At Villa Eden, a small, welcoming staff offers courteous and knowledgeable service to find just the right local tours, trips, and activities. If you're looking for a peaceful view of the sea from just across the street, surrounded by staff who begin to feel like friends, Villa Eden would be perfect for you.
If you're looking for all modern facilities, etc., this is not the place for you, but if you want an older-style family hotel then it fits the bill. A bit dated, but clean, and lovely staff.
