I recently visited Arras and had a wonderful experience at both the Belfry (Beffroi) and the Christmas Market. The Belfry is absolutely stunning, especially when you see it up close. I took the lift up to the top of the bell tower, and the view was incredible — you can see the whole Grand’ Place, the rooftops, and the beautiful architecture of the town. It really gives you a different appreciation of Arras. The Christmas Market below was full of festive atmosphere. There were lots of wooden stalls selling handmade gifts, pastries, and local treats. The lights, music, and decorations made the whole square feel warm and cheerful. It wasn’t overly crowded, so I could take my time walking around and enjoying the moment. Overall, Arras is charming, and visiting the Belfry together with the Christmas Market made the trip feel magical. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
The bell tower of Aras, about 75 m high, is a real treasure of Gothic architecture. It was destroyed during the First World War but was accurately restored with reinforced concrete in non -visible parts. The view from the top is indescribable: you see the squares with the Flemish baroque buildings, the panoramic views of Aras, the countryside around the city. The ascent is a nice experience: you go up with an elevator and then about 30 steps on a twist staircase and thus reach the top. There it can blow quite a bit, so it takes a little attention. The bell tower was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. It is an experience that combines history and architecture and is ideal for those who wish to look from the city.
Very good place to overlook the Hero Square. It costs entrance fee to enter. There is a very small exhibition included in the fare as well. Some stairs need to be taken to access the panoramic view. You might want to be extra careful if having bad knees.
Lift and steps takes your from under the Tourist Office upto a viewing area giving stunning 360° of the surrounding area.
Christmas Market and the 6pm light show and arrival of St Nicklas. Wonderful fun.
Beautiful building with a high tower who offers wonderful views of Arras. In the coronavirus time, the tower visit costs 9 euros one person and 20 euros for a group of 3 ( same family). To visit the tower you take a lift fist and climb 43 steps to the door to get out. You have 15 minutes in total for the visit. It is a must see in Arras.
Great place to go, beautiful views from the tower
Max 4 people in the lift. 43 steps to the top. Helpful staff. Queue for a bit for the lift.
