Visited for two nights with friends staying in ‘superior’ rooms. Met by proprietor who didn’t seem to speak English and as I didn’t speak French there was no conversation.||Described as a superior room we were very disappointed. It was small with a king size bed, open plan shower/sink and separate toilet. A few coat hangers but no wardrobe. We found the king size bed very comfortable. The air conditioner worked and was effective. There were 2 dressing gowns but we did not use them. The patio door had a faulty lock and although the proprietor seemed to work it I wasn’t able to and left it unlocked the entire stay. TV had no English speaking channels. Although the room is described as having toiletries there was only a soap dispenser by the sink and a shower gel dispenser in the shower. There was an outside patio area with a table and chairs which was fairly private. Breakfast consisted of different breads and jams, croissants, plain yogurt, fruit juice and limited amount of fruit plus tea or coffee. As there were four adults in our party there was never enough plain croissants available. Not very inspiring. In fact on the first morning the proprietor started clearing the breakfast table before we had finished which we didn’t think appropriate. I would describe the room as standard rather than superior. Outside however was superior in many ways. A lovely swimming pool surrounded by different seating areas creating a relaxing environment. Sadly our weather during our stay prevented us from using these facilities.
Disappointing stay. Not a hotel, but an Auberge, with pool ‘spa’ in owners back garden. Back garden is gated as they have 4 dogs… 3 sausage and 1 growling Alsatian. Using the communal fridge means taking your life in your hands and my husband nearly ended up as doggy dinner! Needless to say our 4 y/o did not use the pool and neither did we! |Lots of mosquitos which owners were well aware of but no mosquito nets or prevention. |Accommodation just about workable for us, but if staying as a family, would be a considerable squish as mezzanine level is risks bashing ones head if sitting in bed. Also very steep ladder steps so no good for younger children. |In all overpriced and not a place to stay if you don’t adore animals and dog hair on your breakfast knife!
Great hosts especially at breakfast which Richard made very entertaining but still making sure you had everything you needed. Very clean and smart with seating area outside our room but also sun loungers to sit by the pool. We really enjoyed staying here and were made to feel very welcome. Recommendations for good eating and the best places to visit. Great location as nice and quiet but still walkable to the lovely beaches and lots of places to eat and drink in Palais-sur-Mer. This is a very comfortable place to stay and a nice relaxed, friendly environment ...we loved it.
We came here for my husband's birthday weekend celebration, in order to visit the area and Ile d'Oleron. It was a haven of tranquillity. We stayed in 'Papillon', a delightfully secluded room with a balcony. The breakfast was delicious, the company delightful, and the room and bathroom spotless. The outdoor pool looked wonderful, even in March – it will be good to come back to swim when the weather is warmer!
just returned from a 7 night stay at "le clos".||we had a lovely time. our room "libellule" was clean and tidy and had a private garden at the rear. breakfast was excellent. the garden is excellent with a lovely pool at the centre.||Richard is a great host, nothing was too much trouble
