Always good. Despite Jean-Michel Lorrain and his wife, Karine, having stepped back (a bit) they are still visible in the hotel. The food is always good. The rooms are comfortable. The situation of the hotel on the banks of the Yonne is beautiful.||Thanks.
This is a darling resort. The hot tub has a beautiful scenery of the river in a beautiful setting as well. The room is beautiful with wooden beams and is spacious and clean. Service is wonderful. As soon as we pulled on the STREET, not even up to the hotel, the bell/valet service was outside directing us to come in. Everyone is extremely friendly and they even accommodated steaming articles of clothing we wanted to wear to dinner that have been in suitcases for 2 weeks. We feel like royalty here!
The hotel itself is very nice and peaceful, offering beautiful views of the river. Our deluxe room was spacious, with a large terrace and a lovely river view. The bathroom was equally impressive, featuring both a shower and a generously sized bathtub. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the restaurant. From start to finish, every dish was a true delight, and the service matched the quality of the cuisine. For a gastronomic restaurant, the portions were satisfying — I left feeling pleasantly full. Breakfast was also a memorable experience, with delicious offerings that exceeded expectations. The only real disappointment was the spa area. The décor felt outdated and somewhat cheap, falling short of the hotel’s otherwise refined ambiance. The sauna was not functional during our stay, and while an infrared sauna was offered the following day as compensation, the experience still didn’t match the high standards set by the rest of the property. Overall, the hotel offers a serene atmosphere, exceptional dining, and comfortable rooms, but the spa facilities need significant improvement to align with the quality of the rest of the experience.
So, here we are back again …. we can’t seem to stay away. We have visited this hotel on the banks of the Yonne several times, and it never fails to live up to our expectations. The hotel is beautifully situated and the staff are all welcoming. We were fortunate enough to be upgraded - thank you - and our room was well appointed with a large glass covered terrace. There were a couple of things about the design that I might have done differently - a question of taste - but overall it was very comfortable and had everything we needed for our all too brief stay. The breakfast is always delightful - table service instead of the ubiquitous buffet. Wonderful fruit salad, homemade jams and creams, freshly baked viennoiserie.||I have to emphasize the quality of our evening meal in the restaurant. We are fortunate to have been able to eat in many restaurants over the years renowned for the quality of their cooking, but in my opinion Cote St Jacques is really at the top. The meal we had was good in every respect - the quality of the ingredients and the cooking, imagination, presentation, portion size, sauces were all delicious. The waiting staff were all professional and we received good advice from the sommelier.||Overall, another lovely experience.
We ate at the restaurant and stayed at the hotel. Sadly I got food poisoning from the oysters - the restaurant’s specialty dish. It was the only dish my husband didn’t eat as he is allergic. It was during a heat wave so the oysters must not have been chilled properly. We informed the staff and they were very nonchalant and unapologetic. We were charged full price for the meal when checking out the next day, despite the exorcism I endured overnight. Unimpressed by the lack of accountability. Hotel was otherwise lovely - but didn’t expect to get food poisoning from a 2 Michelin star restaurant. Definitely spoiled the trip, and especially when attending a wedding the next day.
The room and hotel were lovely, but the staff was what made the visit superior. Absolutely wonderful, very helpful, and so gracious! I had to move a mountain of baggage for one night stay and they helped get everything carefully into the room, and then loaded back in the car the next day. I have dietary restrictions and the front desk answered all of my questions and called the kitchen to double check that my selections would be safe for me. They are truly an asset to your company!
1 day visit for lunch and spa. |The decor is very cosy and confortable and understood the dining room had been recently fully renovated (the decor is very chic, the outside light and scenery is reflected by mirrors which give an impressive feeling of space). |I treat myself with the 4 main dishes and 2 deserts menu just to make sure I didn’t mis anything|Was a fantastic experience from the beginning to the end with surprising mix and flavours and an amazing way to present the dishes. |The service is very high standard: very kind, knowledgeable, discreet. Special bravo for the young staff.
I could not stay here but the guests are lucky to enjoy a spectacular view of the Yonne. It's just a pity that visitors on the mooring opposite have a view of this awful architectural carbuncle which offends the dignity of this ancient town. From the inside no doubt guests are unaware of the unappetising paraphernalia of outbuildings in its depressing 1970s ensemble.
