A quiet afternoon prompted a trip to the Château. It is being heavily renovated but is still an interesting destination. That said, I would not recommend a long journey to see what is there. Very helpful staff and good exhibits. Splendid architectural remains with great views across the Seine valley. Worth a visit if you are in the area (especially at €2 each!)
The immensity of the Chateau is breath taking. Up front you need to know there is some construction. But the parts you can see, most of the front and to 3 levels are amazing. The history is astounding. A big plus is there is an elevator that can take you through the levels. Parking is in abundance, need to drive past the entrance. Toilets are very clean and tidy. Easy access across the bridge. Very friendly people to support and explain and curios to purchase.
A few parts of the castle are intact. A lot of restauration work is being done. The cells part is very interesting. Very good guide, very informative on the period.
Beautiful walk through the city and the castle. Full of history. A very nice spot to visit when around the city.
Well if it is on a way , stop by for a free visit. Not much inside , you do not have a view from any floor. Some pretty layout from outside
Originally built around 1500 this is a fine example of an early renaissance chateau, claimed to be the first such building in the Seine valley. The town of Gaillon is very attractive and the walk up to the chateau is well worthwhile, as the views over the town and Seine valley to the north of the town are very good. If in the area then the town and its' chateau are well worth a visit.
Beautiful chateau. We visited during some renovation works, so exterior was covered. Plenty of a written history, but inside really everything left for an imagination. Very friendly customer service.
Waste of precious time in France. Guided tour was at a time that didn't suit our schedule so we had to do the 3 euro self guided tour. A complete waste in addition to being a joke. One staircase took you to three identical rooms, one in each floor ( or you could take elevator) where they had some exhibits. Then courtyard part of which you can see from outside actually. The gardens are. waste and decrepit. The whole town is pretty rundown with a lot of construction as it'd after a war. With the use of the toilet we were out of there in 15 minutes. Avoid if you can- with a country as beautiful and as full of chateaux as France you can easily do better.
