You’ll definitely learn the process of making the famous Brie de Meaux in here. There are lots of facts about cheese making as well. You can also have the tasting for an extra 2€
It's a very small but significant little museum promoting the rise and popularity of Brie as a region and its famous cheese. It's house inside the same building that also serves as the Tourism Office of Meaux. It's a welcoming little office with most things Brie are available in the gift shop section (and available to purchase) and upstairs which dedicates more information and books on the background of Brie region and its cheese. I discovered that Brie-de-Meaux cheese is made from raw unpasteurized cow milk with delicious creamy centre. Funnily enough, it's not as popular in Meaux as I discovered. This little Brie-de-Meaux museum is well run by the same friendly and approachable staffs who run the Tourism Office of Meaux. A great place to start if you're visiting Meaux for the first time. Suitable for all ages.
Interesting museum about the production and history of Brie attached to the tourist office. Free pamphlets with all displays translated into English and a couple of other languages. Option to add a Brie tasting for a couple euros at 11am or 4pm. Tasting included traditional brie, brie with mustard, black brie, and either a glass of wine or apple juice when I visited. Tourist office staff were friendly and informative.
I really enjoyed the tour located above the tourism office. The girls were very kind and helpful. I am not sure why some thought the price was too high, the tasting is 4€. Note, there is not much to see in Meaux to warrant a trip, but if you are already in the area then definitely stop by.
Tiny museum inside the tourist information. In French with translated guide book to follow in English. No free samples. Cost several Euros per person, which was more like a contribution for what you got (i.e., but worth the ticket price, but seemed like a nice thing to pay for)
Nice place to visit
In and out in 30 min (unless you want to linger). Nice lesson about the production and history of brie cheese with some delicious samples (paired with red wine) at the tour's conclusion.
When I was here there was a short video and then an unsanitary presentation of the cheese without napkins or plates. You were expected to pick up the cheese placed on a piece of bread with your hands.
