Avis
We took the overnight ferry from Ajaccio, Corsica to Toulon, France. Everything was great!!! The ship left on time. The room was totally clean and had a double bed, TV and a bathroom with sink & shower. The cafeteria had a variety of food at a decent price (we got sandwiches for $6 each). The ride was smooth. The views from the ocean perspective were wonderful. We arrived on time. Boat trips can really be fun!!!! Be aware that there are 2 companies, Corsica Ferries and Corsica Lines. We erroneously went to the wrong one. Also, in summer, reserve at least 3 weeks in advance. We didn't and couldn't get a cabin for the overnight trip we wanted. We had to adjust our plans.
A very pleasant cruise from toulon to corsica and back, the vibe is nice as well as organisation. Unfortunately we could not find cabins on the way back and it was night time so there was no way to accommodate us and we slept in the hall.
The ferry itself was OK, smooth as silk but the pre-ferry experience was awful with almost non-existent signage, messages encouraging early terminal arrival and then no Cirsica Ferry staff or facilities - dreadful Public Relations. They overall customer care experience = virtually non-existent. Try a different operator is my tip.
A very beautiful port. Well worth a visit.
DO NOT book food in advance, despite 'discounts'. We booked a 3 course dinner, but the restaurant was closed after departure and was closed (again? still?) halfway the journey (Nice to Bastia), so they robbed us for 60 euros. When we asked the information desk, the man said 'I don't work here' although he was behind the information desk and was wearing a shirt with the logo of the company. He was incredibly rude. He then invited us to come back to the information desk at 6, because a manager would be there. At 5:45, we were told to go to our car though, so this was not possible. Meanwhile, we tried to enjoy the trip with our kid, but almost everything for kids was broken and all the restaurants are only open for about an hour. Information for passengers is very poor. You have to figure out how to gain access to your cabin, by finding cleaning staff who only speak Italian. This is what happens when a company has monopoly position. Corsica Ferries is an awful company and does not deserve to be in business. The people working there seemed to hate it even more than we did.
Our return voyage Bastia-Savona got cancelled. The only alternative was Ajaccio-Toulon, which added more than 1.5hrs to our trip back home. The crew on board Mega Express 3 were quite unfriendly to the point of showing you that you were more an annoyance than a paying customer, whether this was the crew on the parking deck, the receptionist or that personnel behind the bar. A shame, as it ruins the beginning or the end of a nice holiday on Corsica.
Beautiful little town Lots of restaurants on the peer Good for tourists
The staff have poor English and service skills. Ship trip was 6 hours and got delayed 2 hours, and no compensation from Corsica Ferries.
