overcrowded - busy waiting room and long queues at the ticket office. rude and unhelpful staff. no outdoor seating other than those belonging to the cafes which require a purchase. one of the stairways to the platforms (the one to the right) is closed so good luck if you're running late and happened to turn right!
1. Buying a ticket takes forever. The machines are very slow and lines are long. Note to gare nice ville: find a way to make express booths for people who know where they want to go. 2. Finding the train platform is a mess: they have one screen at the entrance that shows the train platform letter with the destination. After you buy your tickets, no screen or direction at all. Also, why not just write the letter of the platform for your destination on the ticket ? Like in every other transit situation anywhere else in the world? The JANITOR had to tell us where to go. 3. Not that clean. Get it together!
We used this station many times during our stay in Nice. Well organized, clean, easy to move around.
This station and the trains that service this beautiful part of France get worse eveytime we visit Nice and are an absolute disgrace. There is no ticket office, the staff are generally rude and the ticket machines - those that are working - that you are forced to use are hopelessly difficult causing long queues. So we ended up missing the train having taken 20 minutes just to buy a ticket. We then wait on the overcrowded platform for the next train looking down on tracks that are strewn with litter and raw sewage. The trains are normally overcrowded as was ours again with announcements only in colloquial French and no digital displays to warn which station you are approaching. This was not so much of a problem though as for no apparent reason (but presumably something to do with signalling) the train paused for several minutes at every station it stopped at after all passengers had got on or off. Whoever is responsible for the running of Gare de Nice Ville and the trains along the Cote D'Azur should be ashamed of themselves. Never again will we use the trains in this part of the world.
The boarding gates only allow you to enter the train area if you have a valid ticket, which is fine. However, the scanners they use for the QR codes don't actually work, and there's no staff on duty (there are a few, but they're sick of dealing with it so they just shrug their shoulders). So the end result is that you have to wait for someone with a magnetic stripe ticket and push through after them. Worst train station in France, and I've been here a month.
It's a really very beautiful city. The roads are neat and tidy. The city is charming and bright. The food Street and main area are quite lit up. The beach is superb. The people are sweet and damn pretty. The buildings and roads are quite historic and wonderful. The airport is also quite close to the beach. The city has a lot of hotels and tourism is a main aspect here. It is also quite close to Monaco and hence people usually visit the two places together! An amazing place to be and enjoy!
Cannot find anywhere if nice has lifts or escalators ,at long last. They only mention access to wheelchair at the entrance. I am not in a wheelchair but cannot do to any steps. So after bad experiences I have avoided Nice station for years. And that for the 4th most important station of France. shame! When you look at Antibes everything is mentioned lifts, wheelchair access etc.
Gateway to one of the most beautiful locations on the French Riviera.
