A wonderful place to truly understand olive oil! We were warmly welcomed by an older staff member who was very kind and friendly. He gave us a very detailed introduction to the different types of olive oil, which we really appreciated. We also enjoyed a free tour of the olive oil production process, which was both informative and engaging. They offer a lot of olive oil flavors—more than you could imagine! You can taste everything free! After that, a young woman guided us through a wine tasting. She was gentle and lovely. This place is definitely worth a visit. Thank you!
Category: Attractions. Olives 🫒 and their oil have been an important part of foodways from Southern France to North Africa for thousands of years. But the last 20 or so years have witnessed the exaltation of the oil. Bastide du Laval is one of the growing number of olive farms to dive deeply into what olive oil is and what it can be, and to elevate it almost to an art form. Our visit started with a interesting tutorial on how olives are grown, harvested, and pressed into oil, which was followed by a tour of the presses and centrifuges, and ended with a grand tasting of many different oils ranging from light, to heavy, to aggressive, to Channel No. 5-ish, to flavored, all of which were available for purchase, along with branded swag. We were tempted to buy one of the large, shiny olive oil containers, to dispense the gallons of olive oil that we use each year. If you love and consume olive oil as we do, or you’re simply looking for an interesting side trip, check out Bastide du Laval. YouTube’s Chef’s Apprentice
We loved the visit to the olive groves and learning about how oil is produced. Absolutely enjoyed the free tasting and explanation about the different types of olive oils. The infused oils were the best we’ve ever tried. And we were grateful for being able to attend the aperitif night, it made our staying in Provence really special with a great atmosphere, super good quality food and friendly people. (Also dog friendly). A true Provençal experience!
One of the best experiences. It’s a walkthrough of the Olive oil factory + the factory outlet and the olivier fields together. The person accompanying was extremely nice and accommodated in English as much as he could. You can walk through all the oil making process, watch different machines and bi products.. It is followed by a tasting of all the different kind of oils they produce, you can buy stuff from their shop and later go see thier Olive fields as well. Very satisfying experience, definitely recommended!
Amazing visit of the olive grove and the oil mill which was educative and fun. The visit was free, but I advise you to call before to know the timings. The tasting of the different olive oils were also great, and finally a boutique to buy the olives, etc. A wonderful experience of 2-3 hours. Definitely recommend it if you are in the area.
If you’re in the Luberon region, Bastide du Laval is an absolute must-visit for anyone who appreciates culinary excellence. Their flagship oil, Ardence, is pure perfection – rich, aromatic, and crafted with the highest standards of quality. It’s even the oil of choice for the chefs at Matignon, in the French presidential kitchen, which says everything about its prestige. The domain also has a small museum where we had the chance to take a guided tour explaining the entire process behind this exceptional oil. As part of the tour, we also enjoyed a tasting experience with around ten different oils, both flavored and natural, which really highlighted the diversity and quality of their production. Obviously, you can also leave with your favorite oils from the dedicated shop along the “Moulin”, making the visit even more special. You can truly feel the passion and expertise at every step, from the olive trees to the bottle. Perfect for elevating any dish, from simple salads to gourmet creations. A five-star experience in every way!
Awesome experience altogether! The host was super nice explaining all the olive oil samples we could taste for free, which were amazing. We also checked out the process for making olive oil, which was interesting and educational
This was one of the best experiences on our road trip through France. We did a tour through the olive farm, enjoyed the audio-guided tour through the manufacture and had a super delicious olive oil tasting at the end. This was really special, both informative and extremely tasty! The super friendly staff helped us to find the right olive oils to bring home. We can’t wait to share them with friends and family!
