REGUI PEINTURE

I am a design researcher and a visiting scholar at the University of Montpellier. In September 2025, I had just moved here and came to this shop to buy paints and washi tapes for my journal. At checkout, a young male staff member spoke to me in French. I replied in English, and his facial expression changed instantly. Even after all this time, I still remember that look very clearly. This experience undeniably reinforced the stereotype that French people tend to judge others. I am only writing this review now because today, while buying art supplies in Spain, I met a shop assistant who was extremely warm and even taught me some Spanish. The contrast made me think again about this experience. As an Asian person, I did feel discriminated against at the time. I tried to look at it from another perspective: during my travels, several young Australian and American women also told me that they had experience of French people being judgmental toward others. For example, I rarely leave reviews in France, because French people on Google often do not respond to me as an Asian person. I have also experienced people meowing at me and shouting “Chinose!” loudly in Montpellier. It made me feel very uncomfortable. Tonight, I suddenly remembered the moment in this shop — the staff member’s change of expression and the look of disdain when he realized I did not speak French. Can I be absolutely certain that this was discrimination against Asians? I’m not sure — especially since there are other English reviews here that mention being treated warmly. I am leaving this honest review for Asian people in Montpellier, for your reference.

Our favorite shop in MPL, good value for your money. My husband and I are frequent costumers. We always find what we need, with superior quality. The staff is super friendly and speak Spanish and English, which is very helpful for us 😅

Huge selection and helpful staff

It is rare to find a stationers that sells writing pads, but I found what I needed there. It has creative writing and an excellent range of artistic materials. Staff were very friendly

From the outside it doesn’t look like it, but once you enter you’re in a huge store where you can find anything that the creative heart desires.

You can find everything that is related to painting and making sculptures,also the price is not very expensive and the product are high quality,i liked the place and m willing to come again.
