Call an interesting Castle and a bit of a story about sleeping beauty not too much furniture but you can explore deep into the castle interior with caves prisons and lots of hidden walkways. Great for kids lots of steps though.
Well worth the visit; chateau and the area to walk around. Beautiful interior and the history was well presented. I wouldn't get overly excited about the wine it's pretty average, considering there's some really excellent producers/vineyards in the near by area.
The guided tour (in French) was really worth it, lasts just 45 mins and covers the outside of the castle and the first floor (you can do the rest by yourself). The guide was a good speaker and had a lot of interesting anecdotes. There is a wine tasting in the cave. The park is beautiful and has several long trails.
Very nice place. For young parents: you can walk around the castle with baby in baby carrier, stroller cant come. The castle is beautiful and the story is great to, good tour.
Stunning castle set in well kept grounds. Sun shining today which made the walks even more enjoyable. The interior was well worth seeing. Not too busy which allowed time to take in everything on display. Certainly would recommend a stop here, parking just across the street. Staff really helpful too 😊
My wife and I visited Brissac last Fall. It was another typically fantastic day in France. We had just been to Saumur and wanted to see which Chateau to take our yoga/tour group to visit this September. Brissac wins hands down. We have been to over 20 Chateau in the Loire Valley and this is a top rated property. Many wonders await. First there is the historical aspect, then the incredible beauty of the landscaping and surrounding estate, and the interior furnishings and decor are second to none - including a fantastic "home theater"!! It is currently managed by Charles-Andre de Cosse 14th Duke of Brissac. And the really cool thing is that he and his family live there. You can even see current photos of their weddings and special events. They even have their own vineyards nearby. They offer a nice selection and the wines are not only very good, but reasonably priced!! We happily bought a number of bottles - should have bought more. We look forward to taking our group there this September, 2026, so come on, join us and we'll see you there!
It was a very powerful overwhelming chateau inside with wood beamed ceilings throughout the chateau. The beamed ceilings have detailed mini-scenes on them with other painted and gold accents on them. The husband's bedroom was one that shouldn't be missed. It was quite impressive and more than most of the other chateaus I have visited. The wife's bedroom was very nicely done. The theme throughout was with animal antlers and animal heads on the walls. The kitchen was great to see, too! The grounds looking from the windows was pretty to see and photograph. There were very wonderful pieces of furniture with inlays and all. The tapestries were worth seeing. They even have a wine cellar where you can sample their wines for free and purchase bottles of you would like to. Many people were doing just that! Plus they have a room for staged performances to take place with theater seating and all! I definitely would recommend visiting this chateau. It has a lot to offer visitors to experience!
As part of our recent western Val de Loire tour (south of Angers) we revisited the Château de Brissac, this time to experience the landscaped park as we had previously toured the château interior in May 2024. Tip - there's a special rate for a park only tour and a map available on the château website. Our walk took us round past the stables then up the hill to the Mausoleum. afterwards the walk to the pont rouge then back along the river to the château. All in about 1h15. Absolutely beautiful and well worth a visit I recommend.
