This is a old charming lovely hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are decorated to enhance the history of the building, but very comfortable and the bathroom is modern. A perfect blend. And it is located within the inner city walls - the perfect location! I would recommend this hotel to anyone. We ate at their restaurant or first night, the Barbacane and the food was fabulous.
We pulled up to the parking area, and I asked my wife 'Where's the hotel?' she pointed to the immense castle wall and said 'in there. We are staying in the old city.' I was blown away. The place is very nice. Restaurant is good, though you will want to sample other food if you stay here; many good places to eat in this town. The rooms are new tech forced onto old. The wood floor creaks sometimes, and the locks are weird, but they work. The breakfast is great, and the location is unsurpassed.
Wonderful location. Patricia and Willem arranged a taxi from the airport and the |pick up from the car park located outside the walled town. Went very smoothly.|Wonderful room with terrace overlooking the amazing views of the surrounding countryside. Sunset’s wonderful.|If you can choose room with balcony or terrace. |We both enjoyed returning to the hotel in the evening and sitting in its stunning garden and chilling with a glass of wine.
This is a beautiful property, centrally located in Carcassonne. We had been here with a group the day before, and everyone was admiring the hotel and jealous we were coming back. I would say the hotel has a lot of things going for it, but also some things to be aware of.||We did have a drink on the terrace, which we ordered inside (aware that others had trouble getting service), and the drinks came quickly.||Our room was very nice. It was spacious, had a king-sized bed, separate toilet and shower rooms, refrigerator and hairdryer. The A/C was not functioning on the last day of April. This is one of those hotels you find in Europe where the entire hotel has to be on “heat” or “a/c”. No choice for the person, and if it’s a warm day and cool night, it’s heat. Not sure if they throw the switch on a certain day (like June 1) or based on the weather. Having said that, we asked about the climate control as she was showing us the room, and she told us right away “no AC”, but offered to deliver a fan, and did. With the windows open, it was fine.||Another odd thing was the shower/bath. Basically, there was a bathtub which was unusually narrow to start with. A shower head on a flexible hose had been added—so far, so good. And there was a pole on the wall from which to hang it. But there was a short glass wall on one end, and about a 25% glass wall on the long side, which looked like they met, but did not. Aware of the short length and height of the wall on the long side, I was careful to put the shower head lower than I wanted it (I am very short) and to point in in the corner of the glass (which I didn’t realize didn’t meet). In a short period of time, there was a lot of water in the bathroom floor. This was very poorly designed. I have only seen one other person complaining, so its possible that other rooms had showers installed differently. I hate those showers where the doors cover 50% anyway and was well aware of the risks, but even in hindsight, there w
Only went for a drink in their lovely gardens. One coke, white wine (125 cl 16 euros) 2 cocktails. 61 euros. Had to order at bar and pay in advance. Went outside and there were 5 tables. Bearing in mind it was 5.45 pm they all had dirty coffee cups, bits of desserts leftover, empty glasses etc from lunchtime. Went to report to a woman in reception and asked to sort it please. Told rudely 'not my job, ask bar'. Face like thunder, gracious as a jail door. Barman on his own mixing our drinks said he would call his superior. Went out again. Drinks took 20 mns to come. No clearing of anything. Barman couldnt be more apologetic. His boss just couldnt send anyone apparently. Drinks average. Now, seems to me that if you ask for premium prices IN ADVANCE you should at least clear stuff that had obviously been there for ages and more importantly train the reception staff in the art of reception itself. A smile. An apology. An ownership of a certain situation. Not just stand there in your lovely little reception dress, with your efficient but silent reception phone, looking at reception papers. And if staff is short how about getting a tray and getting on to help a colleague. Reception by the way is situated by the drink area we were in and kitchen just there. 4 steps would have done it. Result? Awful. Will never go back. Carcassone has a host of fab venues and i dont need to feel this unwelcome by some surly madam in a dirty environment. Dreadful
This is a first class hotel, and you just can't beat the location too. The building is old, and feels very classy inside. The service was outstanding from everyone on the staff that I met during my 2 day stay. They could not have been more friendly and helpful. My room was on the 3rd floor with patio doors opening out onto a fantastic view across the valley. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable was a huge 2 sink bathroom. Breakfast was great. I recommend this place very highly, but be warned it is not cheap!
The hotel is magnificent, the location couldn’t be better. We loved it with our kids. Ladies at the reception and staff at the bar are so professional and welcoming. However the breakfast was a bit of disappointment. The lady was rolling her eyes at the kids, very unpleasant lady who is supposed to serve breakfast with a smile. To have eggs and bacon with some veggies, tea and coffee, you need to ask her every time. Being family of four you need to address her several times. She messed up the orders, which is not a problem, but as she was very unpleasant you don’t want to ask her anything anymore. She made us leave with a bitter taste. As a conclusion I would definitely recommend the hotel, we absolutely loved it, but for breakfast I would suggest go to a nearby coffee shop.
Great place to rejuvenate and experience peace. The window overlooks the medieval town- truly gorgeous and magical. The receptionist speaks english and helps me in finding places. When i asked for someone to look at my shower 🚿 and the caddy to fetch me to the car park, the response was fast. Thank you manager Xavier for caring especially during the windy weather !
