A lovely little square with a detailed and colourfull stature of the famous character, worth a visit if in Bergerac (old town).

The Old Town is charming with unique architecture and little shops and restaurants. Quite touristy though. A decent look around can be done within an hour.

Bergerac is a small beautiful town ... 2️⃣7️⃣ thousand people only ... Named after the eponymous hero of the play by Edmond Rostand and a real person from the 17th century - Cyrano de Bergerac 🏰 Very old, with interesting historical landmarks ... 🌿 Cozy and quiet, but not in the active season in summer, when the center is filled with colorful 🍽️ With plenty of restaurants with exceptional cuisine 😋 🍷 Of course with great Bordeaux style wine in every restaurant 🌳 With many dignified sycamore trees 💙 Located on the banks of its eternal, constantly moving satellite - the Dordogne River 💯 Recommended and if possible with accommodation in a guest house ℹ️ You can safely not book breakfast, because in the boulangeries in the center there are very tasty, fresh and warm croissants every morning, and all sorts of other things. 👁️🖐️👂👃👅

Lovely place and statue nestled on the banks of the Dordogne, Bergerac cultivates a very special affection for Cyrano de Bergerac, an iconic character with legendary wit and a famous nose. Yet, this celebrated hero never actually set foot in the town ! Nevertheless, two statues of Cyrano share the historic center and this one Mauro Corda's 2005 bronze version expressive and proudly situated in Place Pélissière, opposite the Saint-Jacques church. Its aesthetics : patinated bronze, with a prominent nose (he doesn't hide it), a dynamic silhouette, and an upward gaze : the figure "speaks" to the visitor and the surrounding architecture. It's a striking urban landmark, a beacon of a statue that draws the eye. It evokes both Rostand's romantic literary myth character shaped by Edmond Rostand's play in 1897 and the historical writer, Savinien de Cyrano (1619-1655) !

Worth visiting if you are in Cognac.

Nice statue. Shame it is on a high plinth, but given someone has damaged the other Cyrano statue in town by breaking the nose off, I'm not surprised. Surprisingly quiet until a large tour group descended. You can move around onto higher ground to get a better shot than looking up the statue's large nose.
