We had originally booked another 5-star hotel in Lyon, but were highly disappointed and decided to leave the same day that we arrived due to noise problems. Although we called Villa Florentine at 11pm to confirm a room and then arrived at midnight, the team were exceptionally welcoming and accommodated our situation with the perfect combination of kindness and professionalism. The experience at the hotel for the next two days was perfect, with not a single criticism or shortcoming. The facilities are all very elegant and the breakfast room in particular is stunning. The room was generously-sized, with a nice terrace. The fitness room is small, with a few cardio machines and light hand-weights, but this was not a problem, as walking up and down to and from the city provides plenty of exercise! The staff were wonderful, with useful insights into the city, and very helpful with practicalities such as luggage and the car. The only reason we did not extend our stay was because they were fully booked, but we hope to return again soon.
This was a fantastic hotel and a truly memorable stay. The building itself is beautiful — an old chapel tastefully converted into an elegant hotel, while still keeping so much of its traditional charm and character. It felt stylish, unique, and full of history. Our room was absolutely perfect, with an incredible view over Lyon — genuinely one of the best hotel views we have ever had. A special mention must go to the porter, who was warm, polite, attentive, and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. He is a credit to the hotel and really helped make our visit even more special thank you David 🙏 We would highly recommend Villa Florentine.
What a beautiful hotel. Eating in the restaurant with the amazing view and food that simply didn’t stop coming was a real treat. Comfy beds. Really clean. The staff were fantastic. Couldn’t do more for you. ||It is based at the top of a significant amount of steps but taxis easily caught up and down. Loved it and would highly recommend.
We love La Villa Florentine, but some of the changes they have made in the remodel have not been for the better. Our room had little light-we could only read in bed, and there was but one chair and a very large desk that took up too much space. We have stayed in the same room before and it was much better before the changes. The staff is wonderful, as always and we will stay there again. But i hope they resolve some of the issues I mentioned before then.
My girlfriend surprised me with a stay here in the hotel, the hotel kindly upgraded us to an incredible room, attention to details were left in the room for my birthday. A short history of the hotel by the head of reception. Fresh juices and cake in the lobby. The hotel is beautiful 400-500 year old converted monastery. Views of the city are amazing. The spa is great but they have an even better secret. As the nights start early we swam in the heated pool outside around 18:30 with moon light and there is a tiny two person sauna there as well with city views. We couldn’t believe how amazing this was. When we left we were gifted bottles of water two men with umbrellas helped up to the car and even waited until we left and waved goodbye. I have never experienced a service this attentive and thank Villa Florentine and its team for such care and attention.
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Florentine. The hotel is beautiful and historic, and the location is amazing on Fourviere Hill with panoramic views of the city. The staff was incredibly professional and welcoming, and very helpful with ensuring we had a great stay in Lyon. From start to finish it was an amazing stay, and we can't wait to come back!
Villa Florentine is a marvelous hotel. Staff - warm, welcoming, thoughtful and so helpful. Beautiful panorama of Lyon from the hilltop, beautiful rooms. A historic building itself, long ago a Celestine convent, and the wonderfully preserved frescos adorn the lobby. The Michelin-starred restaurant is wonderful, as is the breakfast. I should note if you are not a walker, getting to and from the historic old town sites and the rest of the city of Lyon will require a taxi or Uber, which is easy enough to get. We enjoyed the staircases and winding hilly streets, and riding the funicular up the hill in the evening with a 10-15 minute walk downhill to the hotel, but if you have mobility challenges the hilltop location is a consideration. We hope to return to Lyon and stay at the Villa Florentine again, it made our days in Lyon absolutely marvfelous!
What's not to love about the Villa Florentine? Spacious, historic, clean, beautifully perched above Lyon with stunning city views, we thoroughly enjoyed our two nights here. Front desk staff was welcoming and helpful. Conciere recommendations were spot on. Our Suite 3 was gorgeous, with a huge terrace....a lovely place to relax after days of sightseeing. Breakfast was fine - not extraordinary - but no real complaints - - just not a stand out.
