Fantastic B&B/Pension. Lovely owners, great setting in the middle of the provence. Beautiful garden and swimming pool. Fine breakfast. Highly recommended.
This was our first trip to Provence and the first time we have stayed in a chambre d'hote. Travelling with two teenagers of 14 and 17, I was a little apprehensive about how would we get on with the other guests; our usual holiday is a private villa way from the rest of the world, but this turned out to be one of the best holidays we have had.||||Cairanne is in the heart of the Cote du Rhone region and is an ideal place from which to explore the rich variety of vineyards and the other charms of Provence. Le Vieux Platane provides a clean and comfortable base, with a small shared kitchenette (so that guests are able to make themselves a light meal), boules area and large swiming pool. The breakfast provided each morning was a continental style breakfast with plenty of choice. ||||Jason and Ellen (the hosts) provide a table d'hote twice a week at an extra cost, and for us this was the start of a brilliant holiday. Jason and Ellen are excellent hosts (and talented in speaking a number of languages) who make all their guests feel warmly welcomed and help their guests to get to know one another whilst providing them with good, honest food and plenty of local wine. We were the only British guests and we found ourselves in the company of Dutch, Belgium and Israeli families and couples - fortunately most of whom had excellent English. It was a wonderful experience for us and our children to be making friends with people from other countries and testing out some of our rather basic French! Having spent an enjoyable evening together at the first table d'hote it became the norm for everyone to meet up in the evening for a game of boules or just to sit, chat and share a bottle or two of wine. Everyone was friendly to our children and they loved being a part of the large international group. ||||But the thing that made the holiday so special for my family was the friendliness and helpfulness of Jason and Ellen. They had plenty of suggestions for places for us to visit a
We travelled to Cairanne with a large group of friends for a wedding this summer. Four of us chose to stay at Le Vieux Platane, and we could not have been happier. The rooms are clean and of a good size, with a little city glamour provided in the way of some very trendy, mod con bathrooms. Breakfast was both delicious and beautifully presented, and served every morning in the shaded farm house courtyard. The pool area was something of a haven. Lined with trees, it’s perfect for some R&R, but the sound system means you can also have a little poolside fun, provided you’re mindful of the other guests.||Mathieu and Camille were helpful and accommodating, even welcoming our impromptu gathering of friends by the pool. I will certainly be returning to visit, and highly recommend it to anybody visiting the nearby area.
This was a very relaxing holiday with wonderful hosts Matthieu and Camille who made every attention to detail to make our stay perfect. The twice weekly table d'hotes are not to be missed as the food is a delight, and light meals available on some other evenings are also really good. Matthieu should be on MasterChef not only for the food but for the wonderful presentation of the table with decorations, candles and flowers.||We arrived by train and were collected from the station and had use of bikes throughout our stay. The village is within walking and cycling distance and has a good restaurant, boulangerie and epicerie. There is a guest room where there is a fridge and equipment to make light meals. The pool and garden are very well cared for and lovely. The other guests were very friendly and we had some lovely evenings talking to new people of different nationalities.||In 30 years I have never wanted to return to the same holiday spot - but I'll be back for sure - I have found a perfect place in Provence!
We stayed in Le Vieux Platane last summer when we were visiting France and loved the experience. A chambre d'hote style Bed and Breakfast hotel which includes an amazing breakfast , the rooms are simple and the bathrooms are all remodeled . This previous olive oil farm house dates back to the 1800's is so charming! The owners are wonderful hosts and very accomodating. Loved the experience!
Great B&B in an amazing environment in the Cote Du Rhone. It was my first stop after riding 1200 km's from Amsterdam. And they really let me feel at home from the first moment (even more then that). They truly understand the meaning of hospitality. Mattieu is a real kitchen prince and Camille is a lovely mademoiselle and host. For sure a recommendation for everyone who loves life itself!
I have recently returned from a very pleasant vacation from the region of Côtes-du-Rhône , with the feeling that I must share my impressions…no, not from the area (what news could be told about this very pleasant region producing some of the best wines in the world?), but about the lodgings and their owners, I was lucky to find… so that others too may partake of this pleasurable place.||Even if you are not after wine, there is no lack of other activities in the area, like site seeing or cycling (the nearby Mt Ventoux is one of the mythical Tour du France's climbs)… in the evening you return to "Le Vieux Platane" and their welcoming owners and managers, the friendly couple Camille and Mathieu (who speaks English). They share their duties, except in the kitchen, where Mathieu reigns supreme, with plenty of knowledge, vivacity and imagination. He has a special knack for pairing the dish he is serving with the wine which will do justice to it.||The place is quiet, except when children sometimes express their joy by squealing while jumping into the swimming pool. In order to absorb the noise, the pool area is surounded by a tall hedge.|| ||The Table d'Hôtes cooked by Mathieu and served by Camille - weather permitting - under the huge platan tree which gave its name to the place - is best described as "NOT TO BE MISSED".|| ||The rooms are comfortable (easily heated if it gets chilly sometimes in the evening).||Two friendly dogs put the dot at the end of the sentence.|| ||If I would have to grade it all, on a scale of 1-10, it would be 10+ .
Fantastic place in a breathtaking area! Very friendly owners Camille and Matthieu for who almost anything is possible. "It is your holiday, so you decide". ||No restaurant in the near area can compete with the Table d'hote. Michelin should pay a visit...||
