A beautiful hotel in an idyllic setting, furnished and decorated in keeping with the grandeur of the building. It must cost a fortune to run, with the faultless workmanship and attention to detail which can only come from a lifetime of experience in running a hotel of this quality. The staff are efficient and friendly and the place has a nice atmosphere. The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms beautifully fitted. Breakfast is nicely laid out and of excellent quality, especially the bread and pastries. It is available until 11 am. It is served in a large garden room with views over the garden and river, see photos. The restaurant is equally lavish with an interesting and extensive menu. My soupe de poisons was particularly tasty and we both enjoyed all our choices. Serving four vegetables with both our main courses was a rare treat in France. Everything looked and tasted delicious and fresh. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

What to say about this beautiful mansion/castle… It is a gorgeous building, with a gorgeous park, and gorgeous potential. But unfortunately I believe it is also a very difficult and expensive business for the owners to keep up with not only the style/deco, cleanliness of the amenities and labour charges for the service. The staff we met was really sweet and helpful to us, but surely overworked and multitasking at everything. I have plenty I could discuss here, there is so much that could be done to make this castle hotel experience as a premium one. But, am not the owner, I don’t have the responsibility and the stress of maintaining a HUGE place with limited revenue and forever overheads to deal with…. I’d like everyone here to think that when you are choosing to stay in a castle, and you pay only €160 a night, you cannot expect the results of a €350 one. So, yes, there are many things to improve at BelleFontaine, but please, do continue to stay there, dear Travellers, to allow the owners and their family members, to take care of their castle. Thank you for them. (If the owners want me to tell what I would recommend… contact me! )

Wonderful place! Don’t make the mistake we made by staying only one night. We definitely would have stayed at least 2 nights knowing what we know now. A week would be lovely! The town is easy walking distance as is the train station. The grounds are very pretty, the rooms were large but quaint, service was excellent! Highly recommend!

Such a picturesque hotel. Exquisite grounds surround the Chateau. We enjoyed walking the grounds and relaxing outside. We walked several times to and from the city centre. An easy 20 minute walk. Intermarche grocery was only 15 minute walk. The dinner was magnefique.

We stayed here for one night in June 2026. Our room was a duplex suite in the newer annex building.||Everything about the room – the design, the finishes and furnishings, and the overall maintenance – was terrible. The furniture was cheap, with a wall-to-wall rubber mat on the floor. The bed was hard, the pillows were lumpy, there were two very basic bathrooms, one downstairs with no shower and an absurdly small sink and one upstairs with no toilet. There was no air-conditioning nor screens on the windows. Despite keeping the windows closed, we found a couple of insects in the bathrooms.||The grounds have the potential to be attractive, but are overgrown and show visible signs of neglect. The gravel driveway is riddled with potholes.||The place is also severely understaffed. I called the day before our stay to inform them that we would be arriving late and ask a question. I tried reaching the hotel several times by phone, but no one answered. There was a long voicemail that told me to hold and eventually disconnected me, every time. I then emailed them, but received no response. When we arrived at the hotel, there was one person at the reception. The next morning, the same person who was resupplying the breakfast buffet was managing checkouts. It looked like she was the only one working at the hotel.||The breakfast buffet was at the level of a Courtyard Marriott. ||They sell and price themselves as a four star hotel. This is a gross overstatement!

This was a beautiful, tranquil chateau in Normany France that we stayed at for several days. It was the perfect starting point for an all day DDay tour we had scheduled. We loved another day spent exploring the wonderful historical town of Bayeaux and its beautiful Cathedrel Notre Dame. We stayed in a spacious, modern, and comfortable room in the building that was once most likely a carriage house. A waterway was right outside our door, and lovely flowers and trees dotted the property and were starting to bloom. We had an outdoor seating area in the back overlooking the tennis courts, and there was seating in spots around the property. Dinner was served in the main cheateu and was one of the best meals we ate in all of France. The desserts were like works of art and tasted absolutely amazing. Meals are charged to the room and paid for at check out. Service was fantastic and accomodating, and staff cheerfully arranged a taxi service for us a few times as requested. Off the beaten path and quiet but within walking distance to train station and the town if you are up for it. I would highly recommend if you are looking for peace, quiet, and the beauty of nature in a great central location to all Normandy has to offer.

Lovely place. Clean & Nicely appointed rooms. Floors are squeaky (what you'd expect from an old building) the rooms themselves had everything you need. Wifi was good. They do have an annex building that is more suited to larger families - rooms from what I could see walk by were also good! Bed was a little firm for me (that's personal preference) I would stay here again if in the area

Nice hotel - maybe 3 star, not 4 star. Highly recommend having your own car and having a translator app if you are not a French speaker. If you don’t have a car, you will need to pay €10-20 for a taxi (each way) to go to town. Rooms are clean - our bed was very firm and not really comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were OK. Dinner seemed to be same menu every day, breakfast was buffet. Staff are scarce but polite. There are many nice hotels in town.
