If you are looking for a place where the raw power of Mediterranean cliffs meets the delicacy of a botanical garden, Le Parc du Mugel in La Ciotat will absolutely enchant you. It is one of those rare places that feels like a refuge from the outside world, while at the same time offering one of the most beautiful views on the French Riviera. Atmosphere and setting The park covers 12 hectares and offers a fascinating contrast between wild nature and carefully maintained vegetation. Botanical paradise: Thanks to its microclimate, you will find incredible biodiversity here – from lush tropical plants and palms to typical Mediterranean vegetation (maquis). Geological rarity: The park lies directly at the foot of Cap Canaille, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. The red colouring of these rocks, combined with the turquoise blue of the sea, creates scenery that looks as if it were from a painter’s canvas.
Very nice views and beach areas but pretty crowded and rocky. If you can find a spot to squat you will have a good time. Parking is the hardest part once you tackle that you are set.
"A breathtaking landscape — completely different from the typical beaches of France. After the first cove, there's another one that's quieter and less crowded. If you go a bit further, you can sit on the rocks and dive into the crystal-clear water. The view is absolutely rewarding!"
Superb place, really nice View, family friendly!
Unbelievably busy, paid parking but park was closed for safety. Could still go down to the beach but everyone was so packed close together we didn't bother. Nice to walk about the pathway and take pics but that's it....
It's a natural park just 10 min walk from the shipyard. Perfect for a relaxing walk with an astonishing view to the sea. Inside the park there are designated areas for picnic and there is a playground for kids too.
Nice clear water. Rocky shore but not busy. Easy hike through the gardens.
Nature, our mother, our resource, and our nurturing soul. This is one of the advantages of living near to the Mediterranean coast. There are many outstanding beaches and natural parcs near Marseille region and in the calanques. One of the different and yet belonging to the family of calanques is this parc Mugel. A nice hiking trail, picnic tables, kids playing area, public toilets, amazing views and superb sunset view. À secure parking nearby at a walking distance and one cute & cozy pebble beach. What else is needed for a perfect outing. Enjoy the views 😊
