A beautiful town that set on the hill.. Full of characters with a beautiful view from the hill side. One of the most beautiful town that we have visited in south France.

Large castle at the peak of Gordes. The castle is highlighted by a huge ornate fireplace. The rest of the rooms have a collection of posters about the castle and then two art exhibits. The spiral staircase and interior moldings are interesting. This is worth seeing if you happen to be in Gordes.

Lovely picture perfect village set on a steep hillside. Great array of small typically French restaurants if you are feeling the need for a little food and drink. Large car park a short walk from the centre of the town. Good photo opportunities on the road leading in to the village looking across the valley.

A beautiful French commune that is well worth a visit! It's perched on a hill with spectacular views of the valley below of the village and wine yards. A chateau to visit and an underground cave type thing where they used to store oil and food. Each entrance fee is around 5€ per person. lots of eateries around Gordes and cute shops to browse in.

Awesome 3 course meal overlooking a French chateau! Wife had the stewed beef and I had the tripe. Both were very good. Prices were also amazing. Service was a bit slow as they were busy but still provided for service.

A magical little town ouch the side of a mountain. The location gives it a great view and the town it self is old and beautiful. Small streets with lots of stairs and small shops. There’s a big parking lot if you just follow the signs when you drive by the big castle on the center of the town.

Gordes is a truly beautiful village, renowned for its stunning setting among lavender fields and its well-preserved medieval castle. It is situated on the southern edge of the Plateau de Vaucluse and offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The village is characterized by its narrow cobbled streets, traditional stone houses and charming squares. One of the main attractions of Gordes is its medieval castle, known as the Château de Gordes. This castle was originally built in the 11th century and has undergone several renovations over the centuries. Today it is an impressive example of medieval architecture. Visitors can explore the castle and its various rooms, including the chapel, the guardroom and the stables, which house a museum showcasing the history and heritage of the region. Gordes is also famous for its proximity to the lavender fields of Provence. During the summer months, the vibrant purple hues of the lavender in full bloom create a breathtaking sight. The fragrant lavender fields stretch across the hills and valleys surrounding the village, providing a picturesque backdrop for visitors to explore. In addition to the castle and lavender fields, Gordes has many other attractions and activities for visitors. You can wander through the village's narrow streets lined with art galleries, boutiques and charming cafes. The village also hosts a weekly market where you can find local produce, crafts and regional specialties. The natural beauty of the area provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities. You can hike or bike in the nearby Luberon Regional Natural Park, which encompasses picturesque landscapes, including vineyards, olive groves, and more charming villages.

Beautiful town! Spent a lovely afternoon exploring. Lots of amazing restaurants and patisseries to chose from. I felt like a kid exploring all of the little passage ways but definitely glad I wore running shoes. There looks to be tone of beautiful hotels if staying the night but it's the perfect day trip from Aix-en-Provence coupled with a stop in Lourmarin on the way by car.
