This hotel is like good value hotels in France used to be - run by a husband & wife and providing good food using fresh local ingredients in a comfortable style. It wouldn't suit some people - especially Americans and those looking for the latest decor and features, but it is clean and has what to my mind is more important - good honest values at a reasonable price. The evening meal was excellent - there may only be two choices for each course, but they were cooked from scratch using seasonal ingredients, and the quality of cooking was high. The only thing that might put some people off is that it is slightly off the beaten track in a suburb south of Agen - but easy to reach from the main road - and it has its own car park behind.
We were suggested this place for a local French dinner and it was perfect: foie gras, duck, veal. 2 menus to choose from at a very reasonable price. We did not stay at the hotel.
The hotel itself is simple but clean and comfortable. However, we were very impressed with the restaurant and its use of spices - these were from Mauritus and tasty as opposed to hot. The only problem was the size of the meal for two elderly people with small appetites!! We would definitely make a return visit if in the area.
on arrival we were concerned as all the other diners were single men. an abundance of plastic flowers and some light jazz completed the ambience. however the food was all outstanding. we had mi cuit foie gras, maigret, niceoise and cod and loved it all. the couple who manage the place were full of care and attention. strange, wonderful, fun.
My wife and I took a road trip through France during October 2015. We took a Brittany Ferry to Bilbao and then drove into France, stopping initially in the Pyrenees and journeying on to the Dordogne and finally catching a ferry home from Ouistreham. The road trip was a combined gourmet experience and sightseeing trip. All the hotels we stayed at were in the Logis Network. The Logis Network is a group of independently owned hotels and restaurants renowned for their regional cuisine. Each hotel is graded in terms of it’s comfort and quality. This is shown by the number of fireplaces, from 1 to 3 and there is an “Exceptional” which is a very highest quality and service. For dining there are again four classifications. These are graded in terms of cooking pots from 1 to 3 and a higher classification of “Table Distinguée”. Details of Logis can be found on their web site or in a Logis Brochure, which can be obtained from any Logis Hotel or Restaurant. This is a review of one of the hotels we stayed at. The Madame is the sterotype of a French hotel Madame. She prides herself on her cuisine and award certificates for her cooking adorned the walls. Although it was a 2 star hotel, the beds were fine and the bedroom, although small, had been recently decorated and had had new carpet and co-oprdinated bedding. the bathroom was very clean with a nice shower. It was a little old fashioned, but comfortable. The madam speaks little English. Both the Madam and her husband were very welcoming and pleasant. There is off road parking in a small compound adjacent to the hotel. The total cost for dinner, bed and breakfast for two persons was 110.80 Euros.
Lovely French lunch well cooked and served by Madame. Pity so few customers, although it is the end of the season. But it needs to be supported as these lovely French hotels will disappear. Go and try it if you are in the area.
Just lovely, a very friendly and attentive host, good food and wine. Room comfortable at a reasonable price. Would stay again.
