Nice place with safe bike storage. Rooms were nice, maybe kind of aged, but nice beds nice amenities; room heating was usable and worked. Very nice on a day of slowly losing your core body temp, lol. Shower was hot and no annoying "press every 10 second button". Window had rolling blinds and ventilation options. Quiet neighborhood but basically 30m from the beach. What more could you ask for?
Receptionist was extremely rude. Area is chill and close to the beach. Rooms were okay.
I certainly will not be rushing back or recommending others to stay here. Following a recent trip as part of my job, I have returned with almost 60 bed bug bites, including on my face. I have had to ‘quarantine’ my belongings to ensure the bed bugs do not enter my home. ||Whilst I was not expecting a 5* luxury experience, I was expecting a room with safety features such as doors with an internal safety lock, a window that opened safely. I was also expecting basic hygiene: a shower free of mould, a clean shower curtain, hand soap. We are living in a post-pandemic world and these are basic expectations. Furthermore, the smell of illegal drugs along one corridor in a setting where children are staying was unacceptable. ||The shared bathroom situation was unusual and unnecessary. I was in the fortunate position of knowing my room-mates as colleagues, but from a safety point of view do not think this is acceptable. The magnetic door system was noisy at times and not reliable causing people to become locked out of their bathroom or worse, locked in. ||During our stay, we also experienced the relentless rudeness of two particular reception staff, who appeared to be being purposefully belligerent. ||The food, however, was what saved our stay. Breakfast was basic, but quick and easy to suit a range of palates. The DIY packed lunch was a great option, allowing pupils to find something they liked. Dinner also provided pupils with options they liked, although a labelling system would have been beneficial for those with allergies. Another suggestion for future would be to provide schools/tour groups with cool bags/boxes to transport lunches to ensure they remain fresh.||The beach, a 5-minute walk away, saved our sanity as it gave us an opportunity for the pupils we were with to relax without being glared at or told off unnecessarily by hostel staff.
Basic clean rooms, which is all I required for the purpose of my visit. Staff really helpful 24/7 service at the front desk. Amenities include table tennis, snack bar, pool tables, bar footy, garden and good multi-lingual library. The location is perfect, the beach and promenade 5 mins away, town centre de ville 15 walk over the bridge. Who needs over priced hotels when you got hostels like this, bursting with friendly multicultural vibes and atmosphere. Definitely going back, next time I'm in the area.
I wanted to have high hopes for this hostel, for I was coming here with my school for a highly educational history trip. I was appalled at the state of the outside of the building, looking like somewhat of a swimming pool, mold seeping out of the walls. As I entered, I was greeted with very little staff and assistance with my bags, having to carry my large suitcase up the stairs by oneself. The staff were unwelcoming and left us 15 year olds to sort out our rooms by ourselves. The state of our room was quite frankly disgusting, room doors not being able to close, and we were greeted with a tiny room, with filthy beds, a tiny wardrobe (holding only one hanger for two of us) and a bathroom to share with two strangers. The state of hygiene was repulsive, the bathroom lacking basic supplies like soap and towels. My bed contained a urine stain under the sheets, and my ceiling was covered in water stains. Unacceptable! My window doesn’t open, and the light is pointless. My switch in the toilet does not work, leaving strangers the ability to enter the bathroom whilst one was in there. I was not expecting 5 star luxury, for it is a youth hostel, but I was at least expecting basic levels of hygiene and cleanliness, albeit simple and cut back. The food, however, was an improvement, for the kitchen had made wise decisions on what youths would like to eat. Met with chicken and chips, the chips were nice but the chicken was simply inedible. Despite this, it was an improvement from the rooms. Overall, the state of hygiene and general quality of this hostel was shocking, repelling any idea of a revisit.
I went with school quite recently for the night, great place to stop off after the ferry. Beds were decent and breakfast was free. The only problem I had was a bathroom was shared between rooms. I didn’t talk to the staff much but I have seen other reviews that they where rude but for me that was not the case.
Our recent school trip to CAS was unfortunately marred by several issues. One of our group members came home with a shocking 56 bed bug bites, which was deeply unsettling. Additionally, shared bathrooms facilitated unsupervised gatherings of students, compromising security measures. Windows that didn't open or close properly posed fire hazards and discomfort. Mould on shower curtains and faulty door hinges further contributed to an unpleasant and unsafe stay. The manager displayed unkindness towards our children, which was unacceptable. Parking safety was a concern, and the key-handling process was inconvenient and not necessary. Moreover, the lack of information about a designated fridge room led to unnecessary back-and-forth. While the food was good, and the location near the beach was enjoyable, we advise other schools to consider alternative accommodations due to these significant drawbacks. We will not be going back there.
Tried out the hostel for a weekend in anticipation of booking a several month stay in the new year. Rooms exceptionally basic but clean - normal hostel standard so no complaints. Shared bathroom lock didn't work so we just had to try not to walk in on our neighbour... awkward. Breakfast was absolutely appalling, a shotglass quantity of conflakes or 'pudding'. In fairness there were pancakes but had run out every day we were there. ||No cooking facilities (apart from a microwave) means we absolutely won't be back long term. ||Finally, we didn't appreciate the attitude of the staff. At 11pm in sat night we were stood outside the front door chatting (a couple of smokers amongst us) and were promptly hauled inside and informed they would tell the 'boss' we were too noisy and they might cancel our stay. ||Normally love hostels but this place was more like a prison :(
