ROQUE ALPHONSE

One of our favourite meals during the few months we lived in Rouen. We arrived on a Sunday evening without a reservation and with our dog, and were kindly given a spacious table on the second floor. The setting alone makes it a special place to dine. We chose the set menu, which included a fantastic cheese selection, perfectly cooked duck for the main course, followed by more cheese and an excellent apple tart for dessert. Despite arriving later in the evening, we never felt rushed and the service was relaxed throughout. It’s certainly not the cheapest option, but the quality of the food, the atmosphere and the experience more than justified it. An unforgettable interior and a meal we still talk about.

Amazing experience in a beautiful restaurant with great service and excellent food. After an aperitif the servers recommended the Saveurs Impressionnistes menu with the prime rib as main dish. Every course was perfectly cooked and a new level of flavor. I can only recommend, if you are in Rouen, visit la couronne!

Very beautiful atmosphere and interior in the restaurant, with personal and friendly service. Sometimes it was a bit slow. The food was delicious and there is a wide selection of wines. The cheese selection is excellent and served on a large tray. At the end of the evening, the fireplace made the room too warm, so it was a bit uncomfortable to sit and enjoy. Otherwise, a great place and I recommend it!

My wife and I had amazing oysters, foie gras, pork cheek, cod, cheese, and souffle. Very friendly waiters too! Highly recommend.

Food was ok but not worth the hype. Dishes and desserts came quickly for lunch, not sure about other reviews saying it was slow! Leaving a 5 star review for our waitress. She was professional, helpful and fun! She made our experience at the restaurant fun and memorable!!

We had an excellent meal at La Couronne this past weekend. The food and the drinks were superb. Sole Meunier and a beef filet were both excellent, as was the champagne. The surroundings and atmosphere were truly welcoming and comfortable. The service was excellent for most of the meal until it came time to pay the bill. I caught the waiter's attention and politely in French asked for the bill. We had finished our coffee and dessert and the plates were all long gone. The waiter acknowledged my request. But 45 minutes went by when the server made himself busy serving other tables and we waited while others who had arrived after us paid their bill and left. I do not understand if the server---who had far too many tables to manage, but who had been pleasant and humorous during the meal---got too busy and overwhelmed or that he was intentionally was rude to us, but the outcome was the same, and unfortunately the excellent meal and dining experience was compromised by this poor service at the end.

Since 1345, imagine that. Food is good, service is excellent. But the restaurant is way too hot and no air circulation at all, lacking the fan.

What a perfect meal! We were brought in by the amazing history of La Couronne and somewhat concerned by reading some less than perfect reviews but we were pleasantly surprised. Each course was so enjoyable, the service was impeccable and portions were generous and well timed. All at a reasonable price.
