2022 -First time back after lockdown we really liked the new tasting room, great value wines as always. 2020- We showed up without an appointment on a chilly mid February day and had a wonderful experience. We tasted both reds and whites all were great value. L’ Hortus has been and will continue to be one of our favorites in Pic Saint Loup

Disappointed- knowing how things are going in the wine industry, you would think places like this that have just spent millions renovating their tasting rooms and cellars would put a bit more emphasis on welcoming new customers. I’m in the market myself and was looking forward to learning about Pic Saint Loup. The host was not interested in explaining the wines, the history of the domaine or the terroir and region, just gave us a pour of a few wines and told us the blend. We tried to engage with her but she was cold. I purchased some bottles anyway and asked to buy a glass of wine for each of us to enjoy on their terrace and look at the mountain and she refused, saying the wine is “only for tastings”. I pointed out the sign at the register that said “verre €4,50” but she refused again. The wines were okay, nothing remarkable for the price. Don’t waste your time, you’ll be sure to enjoy a warmer welcome at one of their smaller neighbors.

Major letdown - don’t waste your time going to this tasting room. Because it is low season we called ahead to ensure we were coming at a good time for them. They said we did not need an appointment and come by any time because the tasting room is open 9-12 and 2-5 M-F. We love this area and we’re very excited to check out this lovely property. When we arrived from a 1+ hour drive, the lady spent 5 minutes giving us a tasting then proceeded to tell us we could not buy a glass of wine and sit on the terrace because she needed to get back to her office. Tasting included the bare minimum information. When we asked questions to get engaged, she did share some information but not much. We do speak French and did our tasting in French. The message we received from this visit was that this winery is uninterested in the local consumer and we were not worth their time.

The quality of the wines is basic, the prices are high. And he was very unfriendly... Mass tourist location..

Nous avons découverts et appréciés ce vin : pic saint loup au restaurant le Chary à la grande Motte sur une gardiane de taureau : l accord vin-met est parfait. A boire bien sûr avec modération et a déguster autant en aperitif que pendant le repas. J irai visiter le domaine avec plaisir lors de mon prochain séjour dans la région.

Très beau caveau de dégustation, très bien accueillie, très bien conseillé et en plus les vins sont très bons. 5 étoiles mérités. 👍
