First of all, this is a beautiful and quiet place. The surroundings are lush and peaceful, and the house itself is lovely. Owning a house like this, what a dream! The hosts are kind, hardworking, and clearly put a lot of care and love into the place. The breakfast was especially memorable: fresh, original, and clearly homemade with attention every day. That said, I personally would not recommend this accommodation for solo travelers, especially if you do not have a car. The property is quite remote and located on top of a hill, which makes getting around difficult without your own transport. Going to the supermarket, for example, took me about an hour. You can rent a bicycle at the accommodation, but I found it quite expensive. The area around Urrugne is beautiful, especially the coastal walks, but I did not find public transport very convenient for exploring freely. The hosts genuinely try to make the stay feel homely. However, for me, it sometimes felt a bit too much like being in someone else’s home. I cannot completely explain it, but i found it hard to relax here. I felt a bit self-conscious here, like the feeling of relaxing in a hammock while they are working hard around you. Compared to a small hostel, where you often feel freer to come and go as you like, this atmosphere felt more restrictive to me. There is a possibility to cook your own meals, which is nice, although the kitchen is separate from the house in an outdoor space about 100 meters away. For couples, I can imagine this place being really lovely. But as a solo traveler, I left with a slightly strange feeling. The biggest downside for me was the shared dorm room. It is great that they offer a more affordable option for solo travelers, but for the price, I found the room too small for four people. It felt cramped and offered little privacy. We also had some bad luck during our stay, as a few guests felt unwell after breakfast one day, although I honestly think this was just unfortunate coincid

My stay at Amama Baita in Urrugne, France, was truly exceptional — thanks above all to the incredible warmth and generosity of the hosts. Jean-Pierre, Camille, and Brigitte (the grandmother — and, unexpectedly, my French tutor for the week!) went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and cared for. Far from the stereotype of rigid European hospitality, this family was flexible, attentive, and genuinely kind. I’ve never felt so well-treated by any accommodation host — their hospitality truly made the experience unforgettable. The property offers both private and shared rooms, with a total of five rooms — each with its own bathroom. One room has individual beds and lockers, while the others feature double beds. The beds are firm and comfortable, perfect for anyone with back pain, and we all slept wonderfully. The location is ideal for exploring the French Basque region, just minutes from San Sebastián, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, and other charming villages. It’s the perfect base for discovering both the French and Spanish sides of the Basque Country. And the breakfast? Worth the trip alone. Served daily from 8 to 10 AM, it offers a rotating selection made with fresh ingredients from their own hens and vegetable garden. Everything feels homemade, natural, and lovingly prepared. This is the perfect place for anyone seeking to disconnect, slow down, and enjoy an authentic and heartfelt vacation. Highly recommended!

Unfortunately, you can only give 5 stars, otherwise we would have gladly given more. My wife and I stayed for a week and had a wonderful time. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating and they give great tips for food and activities in the area. The atmosphere in the accommodation is relaxing, the bed is excellent and everything is clean and nicely decorated. You start the day with a breakfast that changes every day but is always delicious. The tranquillity and view from the house is incredible and yet you are very close to beautiful beaches and smaller towns. We would love to come back! Many thanks to Camille and Jean-Pierre. Peaceful, relaxing, this is what I was looking for. The view from the upper room is stunning. Jean Pierre and Camille were fabulous hosts. Providing great advices for any hikes or whatever you need. Breakfast was so good that I skipped lunch every day. Thank you. I will come back for sure. Guillaume.

Jean-Pierre and Camille are the most down to earth and friendly hosts we’ve ever had the pleasure to know… we felt like family from the moment we arrived and were absolutely thrilled with our accommodations… between the sea and the mountains, Amama Baita is the ultimate spot to stay when visiting the Basque region… Camille’s daily breakfasts are gourmet status, prepared with love and that is how they taste… incredible local ingredients and served beautifully… we feel like we’ve made friends for life… clearly the kindest and most loving couple with an amazing heart…their farm and garden are beyond belief and so well tended by these lovely folks!!! We will never forget Camille’s breakfasts and the kindness of them both… so accommodating and sweet…we highly recommend this accommodation for anyone staying in the area!!! Merci Beaucoup JP & Camille…lots of love from Jack & Paola ❤️❤️

A little peace of heaven in pay basque. The hostess and host are such a beautiful, friendly, and relaxed couple. They know the area very well and can give you good tips for walking and eating. They speak excellent English, Spanish, and French. The rooms were very clean and the bathroom was very nice! I really like the hostel/hotel/b&b hybrid they have. Such a great idea! The breakfast was the best I had in a while. A lot of fresh homemade and homegrown products and some products from the region.

Amama Baita is so gorgeous that the risk is you won't see anything else, you'll be too contented with the view (seemingly countryside for miles although it's actually only a stone's throw from Hendaye) and Jean-Pierre and Camille's superb hospitality. The rooms are beautiful, the hosts fascinating, and I had quite possibly the best breakfast I've ever eaten. I'll be back!

It was lovely to stay there, Camille & Jean-Pierre are great hosts, take care about us, prepare perfect breakfast and very open and warm. Rooms are very cozy, location to see all places around is perfect, you can reach beach easily. Jean- Pierre give us nice recommendation where to eat and what to see.
