A beautiful and peaceful place to visit, especially for the view over the Rance valley and the old port below. The tower gives you a real feeling of Dinan’s medieval character, with its stone ramparts, historic atmosphere, and charming scenery all around. It is one of those spots where you can stop for a moment, enjoy the landscape, and really appreciate how special this town is. The view from this area is one of the highlights of Dinan: you can see the river, the old houses, the greenery, and the impressive defensive walls that make the town feel like a place from another time. It is a simple but memorable visit, perfect for taking photos, enjoying a walk, and discovering the historic side of Brittany. Tour Sainte-Catherine dates back to the medieval defensive system of Dinan and overlooks the Rance valley; Dinan itself is known for its nearly three kilometres of ramparts and its medieval setting above the river.
I was looking for a viewpoint for the city. It is free and with amazing view. If you follow the directions on Google maps, it might just direct you down to the bottom of the tower. You might need to walk around to go on top. People can look over the river and the bridge. It looks amazing on a sunny day. I am sure it looks great any day.
Built in the 1300s, as part of the town fortifications, this is a great place to get views of the surrounding area. Unfortunately on the day we visited, it was pouring with rain but we still managed to enjoy the views. No charge to visit and worth visiting as part of a walk around the town.
The ramparts that surround the city are open to walk around except where the road goes through. From this tower you have a great view of Port Dinan which was very busy many years ago.
Very nice view of the old port, and the Rance river.
This magnificent tower, overlooking the Rance valley, is one of the most elegant in Dinan. Its presence dates back to the 14th century, to watch out for threats coming from the valley and the port. It has a guard room lit by two observation windows.
The place offers a great view on the river and old bridge. It is pleasant to walk there through the old city center.
Lots of steps, very high up if you’re scared of heights, don’t go to the top.
