Long read 🙂||I stayed at UCPA Chamonix for one week at the beginning of February and took a ski course there.||Accommodation (Chamonix UCPA)||First of all, about the accommodation in Chamonix (since all UCPA locations are different): the communication with the staff was very friendly and helpful, and I always received quick responses. The place is easy to find, and there is street parking available nearby. The location is great – very close to the small town center.||Guests are accommodated by gender, and I shared a room with four amazing girls. The rooms are quite small, but absolutely sufficient and manageable. There are also lockers in the rooms, which was very convenient 👌🏻||The food was really good – there was always salad, a variety of different dishes, and dessert. In the evenings, there was great entertainment, and you meet a lot of interesting people very quickly. We had so much fun every evening!||The town itself is quite small but very charming and cozy, and everything is within walking distance.||Ski Area||For those who don’t know: the Chamonix ski area is spread across several mountains, so you always take a bus to the respective ski resort.||It is one of the oldest ski areas in France, and you can definitely notice that in the infrastructure. There are hardly any escalators, no ski lockers directly at the resorts, and usually only one or two bars/cafés for the entire area.||The slopes are beautiful but quite challenging – often steep and narrow.||In the morning, you are picked up from the accommodation, and in the evening you walk back from the bus stop with your skis and boots (about 8 minutes).||Ski Lessons||I take ski lessons almost every year to improve my technique.||During this week, we had three different instructors, which gave us a good comparison. Since it was group training, not all instructors handled it equally well. Only one instructor explained the technique clearly and gave really valuable tips. With the others, it was more about skiing
I stayed at UCPA Chamonix for one week in February and took a ski course. The accommodation was very good: friendly and responsive staff, great location close to the town center, clean but small rooms (absolutely sufficient), and lockers available. The food was varied and tasty, and the social atmosphere was excellent – it’s very easy to meet people and have fun in the evenings. The ski area itself is beautiful but quite challenging (steep, narrow slopes), and spread across different resorts, so you need to take a bus every day. Regarding the ski lessons: we had three different instructors. Only one of them provided clear technical explanations and useful feedback. The others focused more on skiing without much structured teaching. The biggest issue was the last day. Despite heavy snowfall, poor visibility, and unsuitable ski equipment (as stated by the instructor), we were taken onto a difficult red slope. Several people in the group struggled significantly. I tore my ACL on that slope. My ski got stuck, I fell, and the binding did not release. I also witnessed multiple other injuries that same day. Of course, skiing always involves risk. However, I believe the instructor should have better assessed the conditions and the group’s ability. Safety decisions in such situations are crucial, and here they were questionable. To be fair, the instructor stayed with me after the accident until rescue arrived, which I appreciated. So it’s a great place for meeting people and enjoying a social ski experience. However, I would strongly advise relying on your own judgment and being cautious in difficult weather conditions rather than fully trusting the instructors.
Simon was an absolutely fantastic instructor at UCPA Chamonix. He was always present with the group, supportive, and fully engaged throughout every session. He took the time to teach us new techniques step by step and always gave clear, personalised recommendations depending on each person’s level. This was my very first time ever trying skiing. I had never even taken a lesson before. Simon made the learning process feel safe, structured, and encouraging from day one. By the end of day 5, we were confidently skiing blue slopes, which felt incredible and honestly wouldn’t have been possible without him. A huge thank you to Simon for his patience, expertise, and positive energy. I would 100% recommend him to anyone, especially complete beginners.
Overall ski week experience 4.5/5 Food is great. Lessons and trainers are nice. The only problem was that the rooms are old and packed.
Great organisation. Absolutely recommend. Merci beaucoup, also to our very experienced ski instructor Philippe!
The whole package is really good, starting from rooms to instructors and food, it's highly recommended
Perfect dating app. Better than Tinder, Bumble, and all the dozens of dating apps that me and my gf have used before we met. I’ll recommend for the singles and people who are looking for open relationships.
Had a very fun time here and was able to learn the basics of skiing for an affordable price. The hostel arranged a variety of different activities and had a great social atmosphere, and the food was surprisingly pleasant as well. I will say the quality of tuition wasn't great, especially if you don't speak any French. The classes have as many as 20 people in one group with only one instructor- this makes it difficult to get individual feedback or personal attention from the instructor. Additionally, whilst the instructors used a mixture of both English and French, their English wasn't great and there was a definite communication barrier. With that being said, I was still able to master the very basics, and was able to comfortably get down some green slopes, which I am happy about. All in all it was a lot of fun and I had a great week here. I would probably consider booking with UCPA again at a different location, however i would take some private ski lessons in advance next time.
