I used Avis here last year 2025 with no problem, but this year they failed to email me with any contract at check in or check out in June 2026. I only realized after the event, and can't believe they would promise that and then fail to send it. Whatsmore they retained 200 euros from the deposit, with no explanation, and I have had to raise a dispute via Booking.com. This was only an entry level car btw. I didn't realize Avis were so unprofessional. I will avoid in future and suggest others do the same. Ps. Bravo equipe Avis Avignon!!
Update - I contacted their social media and email support. No response at all. We demand proof. Absolute scam!!! We were overcharged 1182 euros in the end with ZERO notice after returning the car. I downloaded the invoice and it says it’s some 11xx euros of accident repaire and 3x euros of administration fee for such repair. Bullshit. I have a video of when we got the car and pictures of when i returned it. Don’t even try to scam me. I have proof. I rented the car through Booking.com and I am disputing this until the end. We returned the car in full gas and perfect condition. Never had an accident or scratch. Where the hell do you need 1182 repair fee for? I opened a case with you and Booking, if you don’t resolve this I will be leaving these “great” reviews everywhere so travelers know Avis france SCAMS tourists. I will submit my negative scam experience to every influencer I know who even recommended renting with you. NEVER RENT with them.
John at the registration desk was super helpful and patient in finding us the right size car to handle all our luggage. He was also wonderful in getting us two car seats for my children that were located in the shuttle on the lot. He went above and beyond. There was an issue experienced during the return process where they tried to charge us for bogus damages, which appears to be a common theme, but Avis customer care was able to rectify.
Based on the other reviews I was hesitant to rent a car from here, but our experience was good. Received our car quickly, and when we returned it, there was a staff member present to evaluate the car’s condition with us and email us a final receipt.
Pure theft experience with this agency. Car was delivered to me empty of fuel but they told me it was full. On pick up I did notice a low indication of 40km on the dashboard, but since it was my first time driving a hybrid I assumed that was the battery range. Silly me - within 10km of leaving the agency the « low fuel » light came on! Impossible to call the agency number to get a refund - they never answer, and impossible to get this sorted out on returning the car - enormous queue, and train to catch! So I complained to Avis central office, who just told me no adjustment will be possible. Basically, they just stole €88 from me, and don’t plan to refund it!!! (Just adding to this review in response the the nice message from Isabelle the AI bot below). I have in fact already taken up this dispute with Avis France and to my amazement they are denying any refund - apparently they think I could have got through a tank of fuel (car range, 700kph) in one hour. I think I rented a car, not a fighter jet. Next step - 1. place amount in dispute with credit card company. 2. Avoid this rental agency. So a further update to this - Avis France charged my card with a further $41 in late September, with no invoice, explanation, or attempt to contact me about this charge. When I queried the, I got no answer. Unbelievably poor service!
Worst service I’ve experienced ever! The two guys at the rapid return had zero patience and did very lousy job! The price shown on the iPad was 100+ euro more than what I agreed on the contract, for sure i know there can be charges from extra miles, fuel and so on. I asked to see what costs extra and the guy asked me to go to their office and check from there. I had no problem with that and went to the office. Found that the rating of the gas tank that guy gave is 2/8 and he charged 83€ to fill up the tank, where I knew we have it half full. Another charge was form extra miles which I agreed and had no problem. We decided to fill up the tank by ourselves nearby at carrefour so we didn’t return the car at the moment (it was 3pm, I can rerun by next day 11am with no extra change). We paid 41€ at gas station to fill up the gas tank. When we got back to Avis rapid return station, we asked the same guy to check, he refused with a very bad attitude so we had to go to Avis office again to sign out. The person at the office asked us to go back to parking lot to the same guy so he could check the car and quote. That time I was so pissed that why do we have to go back and forth for nothing, I asked why not the guy check it by himself and call back to office and report, we will stay here. The long beard guy who was at rapid return station at the parking lot was at the office and he proposed to go and check the car but we should follow him there. I let him go front and followed slowly. He shown me the ipad and asked me to sign with very bad attitude as well. I couldn’t even check what the price was so I refuse to sign like that. He walked away right away murmuring he couldn’t talk to me anymore, go find your own way. And then yelled at me that I should apologize for not speaking their language. Eventually I had to go to office for the third or fourth time to check the bill details and sign. Office persons were okay, but the two men at rapid return station are the worst service

I was concerned by the reviews at first, but actually had a great experience! Reserved a car online, they honored my corporate discount and gave me the cutest electric Mini Cooper that was perfect for exploring Provence. The service was friendly and efficient, the car was immaculate, no problems returning it two days later, and no surprise charges.
