Three extraordinary days surrounded by calm, beauty, and luxury in the heart of ancient Lyon. Perched above the city among the Roman ruins of Lugdunum, Villa Maïa is one of those rare places that manages to feel both elegant and deeply peaceful. The hotel itself is stunning—the architecture, gardens, spa, views, and attention to detail create an atmosphere that immediately slows you down and invites you to breathe. Everything about the physical property is exceptional, from the beautiful rooms to the serene wellness facilities. The dining experiences were equally memorable, especially our meals at Têtedoie, just steps from the hotel. But what truly sets Villa Maïa apart is its people. Every member of the staff seemed genuinely committed to creating unforgettable experiences. The concierge somehow secured last-minute concert tickets for us in a packed venue just up the hill, allowing us to enjoy live music among Lyon’s ancient Roman ruins—an experience we’ll never forget. A special thank you as well to Manami in the spa. She wasn’t simply kind and professional; she delivered one of the finest massages I have experienced in many years of travel and stays at luxury hotels around the world. Her skill, intuition, and care were extraordinary. Luxury properties can be beautiful. What makes Villa Maïa extraordinary is the combination of beauty, history, and a team of people who clearly care deeply about their guests. We’ve stayed in some wonderful places over the years. Villa Maïa will be one of the ones we remember. An easy five-star recommendation.
Absolutely lovely hotel. We stayed in a standard garden side room and even that view was nice. The room was spacious and there are separate tubs in the bathrooms which is always a plus. We only had 2 nights in Lyon so we unfortunately did not use the spa but it looks incredible, especially with the lap pool. Next time we are in France, we will absolutely be spending more time in Lyon and staying here at Villa Maia.
We chose this hotel for the pool and it did not disappoint, but we also had a great overall experience with the attentive staff, knowledgeable concierges and attention to detail. ( the bathrobes and slippers in the room were provided in two different sizes- for a man and woman - for example). This hotel has earned its five-star rating. Yes, pricey. But worth it for us.
We spent two wonderful days here after a river cruise. The hotel is located a short walk from from the vernacular that takes you down the hill to the river. Everyone is freindly, and expecially the concierges Francois and Julien. They helped with dinner reservations before we arrived, and were full of ideas of where to go as we walked through the city. THe cafe was perfect for wine and cheese, and breakfast was also excellent.
Loved staying here with my wife and I while we were in Lyon. The rooms are well equipped and bed is comfy. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast and the pool/spa. Thank you again.

Wonderful hotel. Beautifully appointed and very dedicated service. They helped us with restaurant bookings, packing our car, seamless spa bookings and with all our Lyon questions. It was an exceptional stay.
A wonderful hotel where nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Quiet lovely rooms, great breakfast, enormously attentive concierge service with intimate knowledge of the Lyon dining scene. Finally, for those of you driving, the security of a 24/7 completely locked garage as part of the hotel and it knowing it is relatively easy to get in and out of Lyon from there. Villa Maïa is on the hill overlooking the city and the old quarter is a 7 minute walk downhill. It’s a bit longer on the way back!
