Avis
no staff on Sundays. floors not clean. I had an old room with cracked enamel in the tub. shower head didn’t work. new toilet, but mounted so that lid does not stay up, so you have to hold it while you complete your business. vacuum in the middle of the hallway. Wouldn’t recommend under current conditions.
Though it is rated 2 stars, the hotel is very clean. Has a good bar, free wifi, friendly staff, very nice lunch and dinner restaurant. Close to the Cathedral and just off the GR65/Chemin de St Jacques. Good central location. Basic but spacious rooms, all we required. Highly recommend.
We arrived at the hotel to find the door locked. We had to call a number to get a code to open the door. We carried our bags up several flights of stairs to find the hotel to be a construction zone. The rooms are small, plain and minimally equipped. Once the staff turned up, they were friendly and the dining room was pleasant. The food was well prepared. But this was the least welcoming, least comfortable place we have stayed along the Chemin de St. Jacques. The town of Decazeville is charmless. Admittedly, it was May 1 and the entire country is closed for the day -- but that really is no excuse.
I think that Hotel Malpel is currently undergoing some renovations. The room is quite spacious, simple and bright. Bath and separate toilet are a bonus. We arrived on a Saturday. No Reception. We fluked getting access to the hotel as the luggage van man had the entry code. There was a phone number to call if you had a local phone. There was an easel downstairs with our name and room number on it. No bar or dining room open on Saturday. Arrangements made with a Pizza place up the road. Remote management not so good I suppose.
Old hotel. The rooms are not small but a bit old - the shower is strange. Been in better and been in worth places - but really what was bad was the dinner. Almost uneatble.
We stayed at this hotel on day 11 of our Camino Santiago Compostela pilgrim walk.|The hotel is situated very centrally although about 500 metres from the G65 trail and near the main shopping area.|We were welcomed by a friendly young person who had good English.|The property has no lift and baggage was a little difficult up the narrow stairs as they offered no assistance. Which was a pity.|We enjoyed a lovely home style dinner with good local wine choices.|Breakfast was typical and they had a welcoming bar.|Free Wifi was of reasonable quality.|They are still refurbishing rooms but it had no effect on our stay and our room was larger than normal and had been refurbished.|The bathroom had excellent drying facilities.|Would thoroughly recommend the hotel and it has a good family business feel with at least husband and wife team running and probably other family I suspect.
If you are doing the Le Puy camino, the hotel is located on the route, which helps a lot.|Comfortable room.|Very friendly staff.|Great location.|Great breakfast.|I did not had any other meals, but they do have lunch and dinners served at the hotel.
Old cosy hotel with very helpful staff. They speak a little English. The food in the restaurant is good and local. The name of the hotel is Malpel, the restaurant is called Moderne.
