SCI LES CHEVALIERS DE SAINT JEAN

The rigorous symmetry, adorned with three galleries, two of which are arcaded dating from 1608, of the façade of the House of the Knights of Saint John, is reminiscent of a Venetian palazzo. Saint John Knights had their houses in the Netherlands, Malta Jerusalem and Sweden. At one point they colonised some Caribbean Islands that they later handed over to France. Their history is spreads several history and several disputed historic claims are made from current Orders of Saint John over the world.

This is one of those buildings that just sticks out, and as it was from the architect Albert Schmidt, who is also known for the House of Heads and the House of Arcade, it is not hard to see why. The architecture of The House of the St. John's Knights, is reminiscent of Venetian palaces and not of local French dwellings. The original house was built in 1608, and this is a reconstruction from the 19th century, however it is still very impressive.

Cette maison évoque un palazzo vénitien et étonne dans l'environnement alsacien. Les deux galeries superposées sont rigoureusement symétriques.

La casa «de los caballeros de San Juan» jamás les perteneció en realidad. Se dice construida en 1608 siguiendo modelos italianos y que fue desmontada a principios del XIX para ser reconstruida después a finales de esa misma centuria. Se trata, pues y en realidad, de una reconstrucción decimonónica de una casa particular que, con sus dos «loggias» superpuestas a la entrada y estructurada en torno a un patio, es un ejemplo exótico de vivienda particular tanto en Colmar como en Alsacia.

Réplique demeure de Venise et pour curieux , face à la demeure poursuivez 150 mètres à votre gauche , sur trottoir en face , vous verrez une ouverture dans mur avec une grille et là derrière vous aurez l'honneur de rendre hommage à une tombe 🙏 il y repose en Paix des Chevaliers de St Jean comme précisé sur pierre tombale . Curiosité colmarienne ! Beaucoup de charme clairement inspirée des demeures vénitiennes ! Ironie ou pas nous avons un bras de rivière surnommé la petite Venise qui est à quelques pas de la maison des Chevaliers de Saint-Jean
