The Grange des Ecrins is a very welcoming place in a great location. The entire staff is dedicated to making your stay enjoyable. The icing on the cake is their excellent cuisine: Wonderful dinners are served in their dining room. Their chef is great, with a generous personality. This is a place we very much recommend.
La Grange des Ecrins is a pure slice of heaven - the grange itself is stunning - combining both tradition with a more modern though very unique and tasteful design. Chabottes is a charming mountain village with excellent access to mountain walks, multiple ski resorts in the winter and varied sports activities in the summer. ||But above all this is the incredible warmth and welcome from Meg, Jean and JB. They simply could not do more to make you feel comfortable and to ensure that your experience is magical - nothing is too much for them. ||We have already stayed at La Grange four times over the last three years and will be returning for our fifth visit very soon.||Oh and Meg's cooking - prepare to be wowed!
Staying at La Grange des Écrins was honestly the best bed and breakfast experience I have ever had. The moment we walked in, the house, sitting atop the mountain, felt beautifully local, and the mountain views were breathtaking. Meg and Jean took such incredible care of us. Their warmth and attention to detail felt like the service of a five star hotel. Our room was extremely cozy, clean and spacious. It had that perfect balance of comfort and calm that makes you immediately relax the moment you step inside. If you come here, you absolutely have to book the dinner option (they also use fresh fruits from their front-yard!). We stayed for five nights and every single night Meg and Jean created a completely different multi course menu. Meg grew up in Asia, so she brings this subtle Asian influence into her cooking that makes the dishes feel both familiar and unexpectedly creative. One night she made a pear and almond tart that I still think about. We tried looking for restaurants in the area during our stay and nothing even came close. Their desserts especially are unforgettable. You can feel how much heart they put into the food. The house sits at the top of a hill looking out toward the French Alps with the most peaceful view of the mountains. The sunsets from the lounge or dining room feel almost unreal. I could sit there for hours and never get tired of it. The property is huge and full of places to explore, from their two zip lines to the quiet little lounge area tucked into the trees below the house. For activities, Jean knows everyone and everything in the region. He not only recommended the best local spots but actually went out of his way to take us to a milk farm so we could try fresh milk straight from the source. Thanks to him we discovered paragliding, canyoning which is a must try, local beer and honey makers, a cheese farm, a milk farm, sailing, ziplining and so many small local gems we never would have found on our own. He has this gift for showing
The host’s team was incredibly warm and welcoming, and the food was outstanding, blending creative flavors from both Asia and Europe. The accommodation was spotless and comfortable, with well-developed facilities nearby. As first-time visitors, we really appreciated the detailed travel suggestions, which made our itinerary rich and enjoyable. The newly added zipline is a fun activity for children, though it does come with some risks, so adult supervision is a must. I believe the scenery will be even more beautiful in winter, and we’d definitely love to return if given the chance.
My husband and I spent at absolutely idyllic long weekend at La Grange to celebrate our anniversary and recommend it highly. The atmosphere and ambiance is total peace and relaxation with a touch of dreaminess. We loved all the unique spaces around the property where you could enjoy the outdoors in a very comfortable, private way. The food and service is impeccable! JB made us feel right at home and made sure we had everything we need to have an amazing weekend. We can’t wait to go back!
La Grange des Ecrins deserves all the 5 stars it receives. Our family felt this was a home away from home with all the comforts, but none of the work! Our kids/teens could explore the gardens with the background of the mountains. This left the adults time to enjoy the reading room, play the piano, badminton or take a drink at the bar. We had one bedroom for adults with ensuite and the teen room, which was adjacent, was also ample sized with its own bathroom. Charbottes is a tiny village which is lovely for a stroll. And the silence at night with a window above the bed to watch the stars... Serenity!||Jean’s family has lived in these mountains for generations and his kindness, advice and guidance was appreciated and invaluable. Meg is a chef extraordinaire who surprised us every night with delicious cuisine with vegetarian options to boot. Our family was able to enjoy, for one week, the best of French food, conversation and conviviality. The kids and I even managed to practice speaking French with the other guests, although this wasn’t needed as Jean speaks excellent English and 'Australian'. We return to Australia much richer for this experience. Many thanks especially to the ‘guest services manager’ who allowed my daughter to carry him around and moved off the couch occasionally. ||Our holiday was arranged through @Undiscovered Mountains.
It was a fantastic holiday. We had a four-night stay in the Grange with family and friends. Thank you Jean, Meg and JB took good care of us, from booking, activities, apéro to five-course suppers. Highly recommended if you are a nature lover. There are plenty of activities around, such as different difficulties of hiking, swimming in lakes, visiting small villages. Kids had fun in the grange area with games and ball games. We will definitely come back to enjoy the nature and the amazing meals from La Grange Des Écrins!
We just returned from an amazing 10-day stay with the family. The rooms were fantastic, the location was absolutely idyllic, and the service and food were truly exceptional. We had such a wonderful time. There is so much to do in the area and the farmhouse is an ideal base for a wonderful Alpine adventure. .
