Night at the Museum. This stay cannot be rated according to the criteria expected of a hotel, as it is not a hotel. If you expect hotel service and amenities, you may be disappointed. This is a homestay that is offered in the large palace museum, on the lower floor there are about a dozen salons furnished with vintage furniture and exciting interior elements, and probably at least as many rooms for private use. Upstairs are guest rooms that look more like museum exhibits than hotel rooms. The rooms have authentic vintage furniture and plenty of interesting vintage furnishings. Our room was quite spacious and bright. The bathroom had a rare old-fashioned sink with separate taps for cold and hot water, as it was in the old days and as the English still prefer to use (much to the dismay of all the tourists). Of course, it is very inconvenient to use two separate taps, but in this case we treated it as an exotic experience. The shower cubicle and shower faucet were in a rather poor condition. The house is grand, but both the house and the furniture are quite worn. Despite this, it all left a positive impression. Breakfast is served to everyone together at a large table and freshly made croissants are offered for breakfast. We are used to eating salty food in the morning and the host was kind enough to make us an omelette. It is not written anywhere that it is a hotel and not on any of the doors is it written that there is a reception. We made several rounds around the palace looking for the right door and then we started to try which door was open one after another. There is actually no reception, somewhere in the back room there is an office for that. On our trip to France, the two most important criteria for choosing hotels were that it should be a palace and that it should have an outdoor pool. Of course, the use of the pool always depends on the weather, but this time the pool was not used, not because of the weather, but because the pool cleaning system had stopp
What a find! The Chateau is beautifully managed, well preserved with an abundance of original furniture. The rooms are spacious, comfortable with amazing views. The gardens are beautifully kept, the park itself has walking trails, vegetable garden (huge), rivers/lakes etc. The host is extremely friendly, speaks excellent English, provides a delicious breakfast - you really couldn't ask for more.
Great experience in a French chateau that has nice rooms and lots of space. Owner was more than helpful and upgraded us to a first floor room as my wife had injured he knee. Wish we could have explored the grounds but the first floor has many large interesting rooms. Would stay here again.
We were staying near here and decided to visit for a Sunday afternoon picnic. There is a small charge to get in, after which you have free roaming in the grounds. It was a good place for a family walk, with an English tour map (returnable) to assist us and plenty to see en route. The grounds were deserted, and judging by the small carpark not many tourists visit. There were more signs of life around the actual chateau, which is a small hotel.
This is not a hotel it is a private home that has been in the family for generations. It is a privilege to stay here and you feel like a guest of the family. The welcome is great and the house is exquisite inside and out. And it sits in about 40 acres of beautifully maintained parkland. My second visit but not my last.
We just spent a week with my family in a part of the castle.||It was my second visit but the first time renting an aisle of the castle.||||It felt like home. The place is very big, well decorated and with all the necessary equipment.||I really enjoyed the park, it's very green and quiet. The big plus are the pool and the tennis course.
We traveled down from Cherbourg and arrived here. Like many places in France, tired and lacking some money to really make a spectacular offering. However, that does not go against it. You get a real chateau experience. The old bath, sloping flaws, fabrics, floor to ceiling windows and a dinning room to die for for breakfast really does give you a great start to your trip. The access to a tennis court and pool were welcomed. Our host was excellent, the owner, who gave us some history, advice and directed us to the local restaurant over the road for dinner! Our rooms were steeped in history, full of interesting art, objects and books that really made you feel part of France. With some neatening around the edges, would it loose its authenticity, possibly? Overall well worth a stop over if you are beaking a journey to Cherbourg from the south or setting off along the Loire.
I did a trip in France with my fiancé and we drove through a lot of Normandy and the Loire Valley. We saw and stayed at many Chateaus. We spent one night here. For the price, it was kind of amazing. It wasn’t the most restored chateau we saw, or the biggest, but it felt like ours, because there are so few rooms to stay in. The breakfast was great. We walked the grounds in the morning and ran into no one. If you’re the type of person that prefers something less touristy even if it’s less nice (it’s plenty nice enough), stay here and feel like a lord. Literally, the thing I enjoyed most about a 10 day journey through France.
