My husband and I stayed at Clos de l'Herminier mid-May 2016 after my husband had visited in 2011. He raved about the location and ease of dealing/working with the management team. We revisited mostly because of it's proximity to the rugby stadium (as it's literally next door) and are so glad we did. Keeping in mind that the location is a Bed & Breakfast (not a hotel), we could not have been more happy. Maurice and Véronique welcomed us as if we were a long lost family member! Véronique, after learning we were arriving by train later in the evening, even offered to pick us up herself from the train station.||A decadent breakfast of extremely fresh croissants, fruit, yogurt, jams, cereals and coffee were served each morning from the refreshingly kind duo in either the courtyard or inside dining room. As there are several rooms the kitchen and dining room acted as shared space. Another couple arrived a few days after us and with the temperatures dropping we shared the dining room table over breakfast - which is great if the other couple are morning people.||Maurice patiently explained the public transport system to me, which proved to be super easy to pick up. The bus picks up just down the street from the Bed & Breakfast, cost 1.5 euros and took only 20 minutes to get into town. Not a bad option when you're car-less and in a different country! The tram is another few blocks past the bus pickup and is as easy to manage, and offers other locations further outside of Montpellier (such as the beach).||The room we stayed in (Grain de Sel) was perfect for us. The bed was comfortable, the shower and bathroom area was large, and the television / sitting area was a wonderful addition. My only complaint was that the large windows opened onto a residential construction site. The noise wasn't an issue for us as they finished around 4pm each day, but the constant traffic throughout the day wasn't quite as relaxing as I had hoped. The pool was tucked away nicely in the back of the
Wonderful quiet place, isolated beautiful area within the city. The owners of this house are very kind and nice people, we stayed with them for almost a week, every day there were wonderful breakfasts. It was even a little sad to leave this beautiful place. We had only one unpleasant moment, we corresponded with the owners about the availability of room, we were told that there was a room for our dates, we replied that we would come and named our dates, but we did not receive a response from the owners and thought that everything was probably fine and we could come, we arrived late in the evening by car and the owners were very surprised, as it turns out that our letter did not reach them and they did not expect us at all, but they got into a position and accepted us anyway, although it was not at all convenient for them. Therefore, before arriving, make sure that your arrival is confirmed.
Clos de l’Herminier is the perfect place to stay in Montpellier. Maurice and Veronique are very welcoming and helpful hosts and the house is an oasis of calm with very easy access to the bustling centre of Montpellier. ||||The rooms are all beautifully decorated and immaculately clean and the breakfasts are a lovely selection of fresh bread, pastries, jams and fruits with freshly squeezed juice and as much ‘proper’ tea and coffee as you wish.||||The pool is away from the house in a quiet place in the garden and is a lovely place to spend and hour or two relaxing.||||It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the tram stop (Sabines) and then another 15 on the tram (line 2) to get to the Place de la Comédie. It costs 1 Euro on the tram. (note - one reviewer does say 40 minutes walk to the tram stop - this is not correct - we walked it every day and it is an easy 15 minute walk)||||The house is not far from the ring road and so is very easy to find, but the area around is being developed so it can be difficult to find the entrance to the house when you first arrive, but the directions are good if you follow them carefully and once you have found it, it’s very easy the next time. The house and grounds are very safe with secure gates, walled gardens and easy parking.||||When we booked, Veronique warned us that there could be some noise due to the local work, and although this is true, we never found it to be a problem. Once you go through the front gates into the garden, you are in a different and very peaceful world.||||We stayed as a family (2 rooms) for a week in early September 2015 and Maurice and Veronique made us feel like part of their family. We slept well in very comfortable rooms, enjoyed the lovely breakfasts and swam in the pool in the late afternoons before enjoying evenings in the old town. It’s all lovely and I highly recommend it.
Maurice and Veronique were the perfect hosts. Their beautiful wine growers house would have been at one time in the country but now it is surrounded by modern flats and is next door to a rugby stadium. Do not let this put you off - it is a little oasis of tranquility. There is a very efficient service of parking and using the tram into the city centre very close by and it only costs 4 euros. Maurice could not have been more helpful with our many questions and requests. He always answered with a smile. The breakfasts were beautifully presented and plentiful with a different local pastry every day. Maurice went out of his way to make our holiday perfect and we appreciated his kindness. A beautiful golden Labrador puppy running around was a lovely addition!
We loved our stay here and Maurice and Veronique were perfect hosts. We had a 4 night stay for my big birthday. ||||Yes the B&B is next to the rugby stadium but we went to the Montpellier v Clermont Ferrand match and it was brilliant. Yes the B&B is currently (but not permanently) next to building works, but don't let this put you off; it's a real oasis - super quiet. ||||We did not have a car for our stay and we didn't need one; public transport in Montpellier is great. It's about 20 mins from the airport in a taxi (about E35 including suitcases). The bus is the closest (you can check its arrival on an app/scan code on the board at the bus stop) and the tram is a bit further on (but runs much later into the evening). It's all flat fee of E1.60 per journey on either mode or you can buy day cards or carnets etc. You can pay directly on the bus (they give change) or you buy tickets on the machine at the tram stop (there's an English language option). There's a city bike hire scheme and taxis including some uber coverage. If you attend a rugby match there appears to be a shuttle bus from the Sabines tram stop before and after the match (look on the rugby website).||||We didn't use it, but read that the Tourist Information (Place de la Comedie) can set you up with a museum/monument/transport card for your stay that removes the need to pay each time.||||We were really really pleased we chose to stay here rather than in the town itself at a more impersonal hotel. This B&B works if you have a car. Be mindful that parking in the city centre is either impossible for some hotels (they have no provision), expensive/limited spaces, on the street if you get a space, or in a public car park because the main centre is entirely pedestrianised. ||||Our hosts had helpful guide books and lots of information about how to get around including great restaurant recommendations (they will also book for you if you feel you need help; although many places certainly speak enough English to be
Clos de l'Herminier is a gorgeous historic building surrounded by beautiful gardens that insulate from the hustle and bustle. The rooms are superb, roomy and always impeccable. The hostess, Veronique, has a real sense of decorative style. This Chambres d'Hotes is better than many 4 and 5 star hotels where we have stayed. It is convenient to so much, ranging from the sea to wonderful historic sites like St Guilhem le Desert. The best aspect of this inviting place: the host and hostess. Maurice and Veronique are welcoming, gracious, and always helpful. We felt like we were among good friends. Don't hesitate to ask about places to visit, things to experience, and where to eat. Their advice about a gem of a restaurant on the beach led us to a wonderful evening. We look forward to returning, and bringing friends and family with us.
We spent 3 nights here. Excellent breakfasts - hope the raspberry jam is being served when you visit. The selection of breads each day is excellent. Charming and attentive hosts. We'll have to return to Montpelier one day just to enjoy what we found at Maurice and Veronique's.
We just stayed two nights in this wonderful B & B. Maurice and Veronique were warm, friendly and very helpful. As matter of fact Veronique printed out boarding papers we needed for our cruise home to the USA since we did not have a printer. The rooms were spacious and well decorated and the grounds and pool were a welcome respite from the hustle bustle of the city and so much less formal than a sterile hotel. Highly recommended
