LE CHATEAU

Water Tower of Metz was constructed between 1905 and 1908, during the period when Metz was part of the German Empire. It was designed alongside the large railway complex and was used to supply water to steam locomotives. Enormous and beaitiful.

Designed by Jurgen Kroger when Metz was part of the German Empire around 1908. The tower was built to supply the trains with water that ran on steam. It also acted as a shower for the operators of these heavy, heated locomotives. When the train station and its watertower transferred to the French and the SNCF train company, there was no functional need for the watertower. There were plans to make the tower a restaurant and a hotel but that never happened. It still has no function but it is still visually amazing to look at.

It is an historic monument adjacent to the town railway station.
