Great location for lunch. Right on the river with a really well laid out terrace, suitably covered for summer days. Really good menu du jour with selection for all tastes. Thoroughly recommend

Having seen this restaurant in the Michelin guide we went for lunch with great expectations, however this was short lived. The reception was non existent!! We arrived into the front reception and despite two people standing there we were ignored! I went up to the bar to say we had a table booked and was shown through to a conservatory area by a lady in Denims and a blouse. Didn’t know if she was staff or what she was. We were given menus by what turned out to be the rudest waiter I had ever met. We ordered the Plat for two of us and a la carte for the other two. The a la carte starters arrived, Fois gras with a fruit chutney. It was presented very planely and lacked an sort of “Michelin” flare. Tased good though. The Plats didn’t include starters. The Plat was fish on a veg base and was cold, not even warm! The a la carte was veal and again stone cold. My wife’s was even served on a chipped plate!!!! Very bland and tasteless, very disappointed. We were never approached during our meal to see if everything was OK or offered more drinks. Sweets were Pear and again no presentation or any real taste to the food. Caramel sauce could have been gravy for all the taste it had! We ordered a coffee from the lady that took us to our table initially as she cleared our plates. I was later asked if we wanted coffee from the rude waiter and when I tried to tell him we had already ordered in my broken French he rolled his eyes and tutted!!! We had to go to the reception desk to pay our bill and again the rude waiter handed me my bill without uttering a word. I paid €142.00 for the pleasure of their undertakings and left totally bemused by the whole experience. I will never go back and I hope that they are removed from the guide as they just don’t have the talent for it.

We were with a few friends, and enjoyed the meal and the service. A new venue for us to visit, in summer I think it will be lovely scenery.

Lovely evening, beautiful location. Tables well presented unfortunately the food was very average and service was without warmth or feeling. 245 Euros for four people - very, very expensive for what was an average meal. Most definitely not gourmet - apart from the price! Would we go again - maybe?

The establishment is welcoming from the moment one passes under the arch and into the courtyard. There is sufficient parking either side of the entrance. Entering i was greeted by several Bonjours and shown to my table. In winter the riverside terrace is given up for the warmer dining room which is separated solely by a large double glazed window wall. Seated I was offered an aperitif and menu and wine list were presented. A black pudding puff and an absolutely beautiful celery gazpacho were given with my g & t. And a bowl of water for the dog. No rush ,I chose the Foie Gras on the 38€ menu. Service was impeccable. Waiters invisible and great service. I followed with the common French piece of beef. It was perfect, and the jus set it off beautifully. This was followed by three cheeses, including Echognac which is beautifully distinctive and comes from a convent a few miles south.||Rounded off with a delightful fig desert. A truly memorable meal. My dog also liked the ambiance. My only small negative was that insufficient attention was given to presentation of wine and it's pouring ||I shall return.

This was my first visit to this establishment to have lunch in celebration of a friend's birthday. Ten of us sat down at a well presented table with views across the river. There was a limited choice for the set menu and also an à la carte menu. The service was friendly and welcoming, the order taking helpful and efficient and whilst the service seemed a little slow at times if you consider that each dish was cooked from order that was excusable. Overall a very good meal in very pleasant surroundings and at a very reasonable price.

My wife and I spent a month travelling around France on an 'ad-hoc' basis - sometime late summer/early autumn in 2003 (and not what the date at the foot of this review will state). We actively seek out independent hotels, in either out of town or rural areas - and the location of this hotel suited us perfectly.||||We adored the fact that it was sited right on the riverside. And even though my French conversational skills are basic, we felt our welcome was very warm and friendly - so nice, we actually stayed for 5 days.||||Our room (can't remember the room number) was quite large, and whilst being fairly basic, was very clean and appropriately appointed. The big plus for me was the view over the river - spectacularly gorgeous and tranquil. The room was cleaned daily whilst we were there, with fresh supplies of toiletries and towels daily too.||||We generally use hotels as a base for day trips, and often get back late, so we didn't have chance to eat in the restaurant. However, every evening we returned, the restaurant always had diners, and whilst the numbers of diners was sometimes small (with it being mid-week, rather than Friday or Saturday) - there was always a vibrant and happy atmosphere from the restaurant. Every evening we returned, we had good chats with the owner, and sometimes also some of the diners - even with my limited French and their limited English - we still managed to have interesting and engaging conversations - the owner and any diners were happy to hear of my daily travels, discussing my car (I owned quite a distinctive high performance car at the time - and it was rare to see another British registered car in the Angouleme area).||||When it was time to depart, the owner undercharged us by one day - but being honest, we advised him of his mistake and paid the correct amount, and in return, the owner gave us a complimentary free bottle of delicious Menard Rose wine.||||We were sad to leave this hotel, and vow to return someday. :))||||C'e

Didn't stay but had lunch. All average but definitely not worth the money and shouldn't be in the Itinéraire Gourmand book. The waitress wore jeans, dumped our main course and left before asking if we wanted anything else. The meal cost us 125€ . I have eaten in other places in the book who are way superior to this for less money. I don't think the meal warranted more than 60€. Would not recommend.
