This was the nicest modern library I entered across a month in western Western Europe. Modern building construction with a wide variety of books and a significant emphasis on an alternative media collection even including comfy lounge chairs in front of big screen tvs. There’s even a gallery on the top floor which would be worth checking out. Significant space for reading and using laptops exists throughout the building including dedicated rooms in the upper floors. Montpellier’s efforts to make their libraries more than just books is commendable.

I think this country has some of the best public libraries you'll visit...great architecture, lovely staff..loads of books! Lovely sitting places! 2nd Floor Adult Literature section.... sitting area!

This is such a great space with pleasant staff and a welcoming ambiance. If you wish to read quietly around the stacks, work seriously or study upstairs in the salle de travailler, watch a film, listen to music, play video games or just have a chat in the cafe area downstairs, this is the place to go. Highly recommend.

Best library in France that i've experienced so far. Lots of working spaces, wifi access, puzzle- table shared by everybody, food-area on the ground floor. Cinema, karaoke, french conversation courses and other activities are organised. Computers to use, gaming area, area to watch films, kids area, board-games room. Staff is polite and friendly, it is always clean, huge wall-windows that provide great lighting. I would wish that the engilsh section would be bigger though...

Mostly not open in the mornings 😔 Worst toilets ever and only on 1st floor

Very bad attention and the personnel is always busy. The security on an airport has more respect and checks less on your stuff than here. I felt I was in a third world country, not France.

The staff is kind of agressive before closing hours forcing you to leave even 15 minutes before closing time, and service like registration also stops before closing hours. The collection is really good and the installations are confortable. But the quantity of workspace is surprisingly limited for a place like this. Sadly you'll have to find a better place to work.

Everything about this place is great, except the architecture. On the outside, it resembles east German Plattenbau, but on the inside, it's more like open-concept prison-chic. The collections of literature, graphic novels, DVDs, are extensive. If you want to read it or watch it, check it out from here. If they don't have it, you may have to download it or stream it.
