The staff officials were friendly and helpful. - that was a plus. Convenient airport to visit Normandy and all it's history. The airport itself is small with inadequate customer services- 1 man overworked on a food counter with minimal choice. 2 toilets - 1 of which was out of service. Insufficient waste bins, which were overflowing onto the floor. Car rentals shut on a Sunday. Really could be improved on.
Had to drive to three different gas stations trying to fill up the rental car. It was just a gallon or two short of Full. Two gas stations ran out of gas and refused to accept my credit cards. One gas station has diesel and Adblue, which is not compatible to the gasoline vehicles. I had to abandon to fill up the car and return ro the airport so as not to disrupt my schedule any further. Car rental charged me an arm and a leg for not filling it to full even after I showed him the refuse card receipts. This experience alone will keep me from coming back to Caen. Also, if you need to use the bathroom anywhere in Caen, you may be spending a lot of time looking for public restrooms, which were nasty. Well, that's my experience.
The airport at Caen/Carpiquet serves a very important purpose, to expedite travel by air for French and international travellers. It does this extraordinarily well, in my opinion, and deserves to feel proud of its service, and its convenience. All staff perform their duties to international standards of efficiency, willingness, and courtesy. It is a friendly and congenial place with modest but well laid-out, clean and appealing amenities. For a small provincial airport is must occupy a high position in global airport ranking. I always enjoy my visits there, and prefer it to most UK airports including the dismal Heathrow and the grim Gatwick and Stansted. Definitely worth five stars, and anyone who disagrees is gâché. My wife's flight was delayed for an hour by an incident at Gatwick, and I was concerned. I phoned the airport to seek reassurances her flight had left, left an anxious recorded message in broken Frenxh and was called back promptly by a sympathetic staff member. First class personal service!
Shameful and exploitative vending machine prices. €2.90 for a 45g bag of M&Ms. Honteux!! (Marseille airport is €2.00 for 100g, and the weather’s better)
Small but well loved airport. Easy to navigate and a pleasure to travel through. Also a very nice cage to enjoy... It must stay open!!!
Really nice experience, airport crew was very pleasant and ready to accommodate me with my bottle of alcohol (left it at the front desk for few days since it was refused at the security check) Thank you guys 😉
Parked my chopper here while we were off to the D-Day 75th memorial stuff. It is handy for all the sites and the hotel.
