A nice dive into the history of the French royalty who lived there long ago. Although we didn't really have enough time to admire everything, it was still a very enjoyable experience. As this castle is at the heart of the city's history, you'll learn many fascinating things. ^^ There are specific visiting times to follow, and it takes a little over an hour to tour the accessible parts of the castle. Many thanks to the guide, who was very kind and never hesitated to help us with any questions. 😃
Someone give Tamara a raise! Exuberant, lively, and entertaining tour, despite me not understanding French! I understand that people tour to view the rooms and less about the history, but this was just above and beyond. Excellent tour guide and beautiful destination!
The castle exterior is fabulous. Unfortunately, we were unable to tour the inside as we did not know that the first Sunday of the month is free entry and they had reached their maximum at 4:00 pm. No doubt it would have been a great visit.
Beautiful house to look round, a sign in English in every room, the guide that takes you round is all in French but was still excellent! And good value at 7 euros per person
Impression palace in Pau where Henry IV was born. Sits on a hill over looking the city. The tour is only in French but they have cards in English in each room. The history was fascinating and the original furniture and other items were wonderful to see
We enjoyed our visit to this castle-museum. So many places we ventured to we had problems finding a place to park the car. Here there were parking spaces all over - a welcome difference. We may have missed some details about the place as the tour was only in French. But we did read a lot of the signs in English and listening and watching the guide was entertaining. Even not being a French speaker I could definitely tell the difference between his French and the French I was used to hearing in Northern France. He was.... quite animated in his hand gestures. The birthplace of Henry the IV and founder of the House of Bourbon if I recall correctly. Lots of materials and furniture on exhibit. I wonder though how much survived the Revolution as I had been told in another tour once that most castles were ransacked. No matter, it is all a very nicely laid out and maintained museum.
It's a great chateau! We would have enjoyed it more if there were a guided tour in English. We could not visit the chateau without a private tour, and they were all in French. I speak Portuguese and Spanish, but that didn't help at all while trying to understand the guide! I want to learn French so I don't miss anything like this again!!! The staff was great and I highly recommend the visit!
Beautiful museum! It's very interesting to learn about the history of this chateau and the people who have lived in it and to see the furnitures and the different rooms. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful with information in English. We really enjoyed it!
