Avis
Beautiful long balcony runs length of building on one side. Great views of river and surrounding hills plus popes palace across the river. Room itself was cramped. Shower very cramped. Breakfast good with freshly baked croissants. Friendly staff and nice pool. Reasonably priced.
The rooms are very spartan, with narrow bunks and narrower pillows, but you get what you pay for! On the plus side, the showers were nice and hot, and the dining room has an amazing view. I stayed here for a choir trip, and we had two dinners and a lunch supplied by the hostel, which were exceptionally tasty. In the warmer months, there is an outdoor pool right in the middle of the complex. In a nice quiet neighborhood a 20 minute walk across the bridge to downtown, which was very windy when I visited in November. Staff was friendly and speaks several languages, at least English, French, and German.
The view is incredible and the pool is a nice thing as well, but: - the food is literally trash. - the rooms are ALWAYS hot and aren't cooled in any kind of way. - the Wi-Fi is unreliable and if working, slow. - the showers are small, don't offer room to store clothes and a towel without getting them wet while showering (the hot air cannot escape the room in any way.).
I stayed here with a school party last week. As expected, the rooms are basic but okay. The food was unexpectedly good and very enjoyable. Our pupils loved the pool but I feel the whole exterior of the extension and external areas need repairing and updating but I expect the hostel works to a restrictive budget. The views of the Palais des Papes from the dining room terrace are fantastic. A 20 minute or so walk into Avignon in the evenings was wonderful - such a beautiful place and we were lucky to be there during a cultural festival so walking around during balmy evenings, watching the drama, music, dance, etc was fantastic.||||All in all, the hostel is adequate and ideally placed for visiting beautiful Avignon. Don't forget to visit Arles, Nimes, Orange and the Pont du Gard - their beauty is breathtaking.
My fiancé and I stayed here for two nights in June 2014. We booked a private twin room and were given a room with two sets of bunks which was fine. There were no lockers in the rooms so if you did share with others there would be no secure way to store your belongings. ||||The beds were comfortable, sheets were provided and the room had a sink with a mirror. The separate but private shower was clean, although small and could use a few more hooks or a shelf for your belongings. ||||The view from the restaurant was great, but they didn't seem to offer much food. The wifi only worked in the restaurant, and it wasn't very fast. They did have a small, old fridge (which didn't work) and a microwave. The staff could be difficult to find sometimes if you did need something. It had a very institutional feel. ||||Overall the place was clean and good for those looking for something basic on a budget.
I stayed here for two nights and it was just bizarre. When I arrived the place was deserted. Once I found someone to check me in they discovered my booking had disappeared but the lady was very nice and swapped some things around so I had a room, it wasn't an issue. My room (one person private with ensuite) was small but adequate. However it was incredibly hot, there is no fan or real air circulation unless you open up your door to the large shared balcony. During the first night my toilet stopped flushing. When I told a staff member the next day she was also very nice but shrugged and said she didn't know what to do and pointed to a shared toilet. I didn't make a fuss because I was only there for one more night but strangely enough when I accidentally shut the bathroom door too hard that night it started running again. There was a very noisy French university group (I assume) staying at the hostel and they spent most the night on the balcony outside my room. No one told me how the dinner worked but when I went to the restaurant they had specifically set up tables and then I read online you have to book in advance. I have no idea, I gave up waiting and went around the corner to get some food. I didn't bother with breakfast as there is a patisserie just down the street.|The hostel is a decent walk in summer. I'm fairly fit but it would take 25 minutes and it's in the sun the whole way. The bus is a much better choice and cheap.|There's just zero atmosphere here. I think it would be ok if you were travelling with others but it was impossible to meet people if you're on your own. I definitely wouldn't stay here again but yes the staff are friendly. They gave me free late checkout which I very much appreciated. It's cheap, very basic, noisy at times and dead at others, I don't know it just felt strange.
YMCA is a great place if you want to visit Avignon on a budget. Rooms are clean, but they do get hot as there is no a/c. Luckily you can cool off in the pool, which is nice. The hotel can be pretty noisy at night, but it isn't too bad. Personnel was kind and helpful. Good price to quality ratio.
Stayed here for 2 nights on a school excursion recently. Great views from our room over to the papal palace. Extremely small en-suite bathroom in a spartan but clean, comfortable and spacious room. Walking distance to all the sites. Great, cheap meals in the restaurant and cheap wine in the bar.
