This area was occupied as far back as the Iron age because of a spring. Eventually occupied by the Romans—several structures remain including the Temple of Diana. The beautiful gardens and fountains were built from 1745 through 1755 and designed by Louis XV military engineer. This area is beyond beautiful. You can climb the staircase for spectacular views or just walk or sit on one of the many benches and admire the fountain. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the arena.
Beautiful park and gardens - plants exactly like what we have in California - should be, considering the climate is similar You can access the spiral staircase in the tower at the top of the hill (buy a ticket) and get the best view of town. ( or buy the multi-pass) and get access to the colosseum, tower, museum +1 other The park is huge, has water features, dog walkers, a cafe and is a nice place to hang out The day we were there, there was a group of kids on a school field trip to the ruins of the temple.
A huge sprawling awe inspiring Roman water feature garden on many levels including fountains a temple to the Goddess Diane and ancient statues. A must see if in the area.
Very beautiful gardens. Lovely view at the top. Free, clean toilets and a cafe.
Beautiful. Nice garden to walk around and view Nimes and the spring.
Gorgeous park with Roman ruins and fountains (I went in January, but if you don't like grey and drizzly, maybe go when it isn't winter)
Very attractive gardens. Canal and ponds are teaming with fish. Toilets available
Commissioned by King Louis XV in 1745, this is one of the oldest public gardens in Europe. It was built around La Fontaine, a natural spring venerated by the people of Nîmes for millennia, and once the heart of a sacred Gallo-Roman sanctuary. Designed by Jacques-Philippe Mareschal and Pierre Dardailhon, the garden harmoniously blends Roman ruins with the aesthetics of a formal French garden. It features a lower section in the classical French formal style and an upper section landscaped in a more natural, Mediterranean style.
