It's more like ruins than a castle, and the entrance fee is €9.50 per person or €30 for a family— too expensive ! Perched at over 500 meters high, it overlooks the town of Espalion and the Lot Valley by 200 meters, offering a panoramic view of the Aubrac mountains. Nevertheless, it can be worthwhile for families, as it offers a glimpse into the architecture and history of the site and a journey back to the Middle Ages thanks to its activities and shows : trebuchet and cannon firing, archery tournaments, and more. Children can also enjoy fun medieval games. There's an archaeological exhibition of armor and knights' equipment as well
It was great to have some entertainement, jousting, catapult and old fashioned canon demonstration, the castle wasn't that interesting, althoughthere are nice views from the top.
My family, 3 adults from UK and HK, really had a very unexpected enjoyable and happy visit today !! Gaelle and Clement gave us a very warm welcome and briefing at the reception. We had to express our special appreciation to Gaelle as she was so professional and high dedication to present the archery demonstration!! Even though there was strong sunshine, few visitors today and we are not French speakers, she still worked very hard to explain in English! We were so enjoying and had fun during the archery practice session held by Gaelle xx Merci xx
A pleasant visit enhanced only by the lovely lady on the entrance gate. Very well spoken, attentive and very good with my children. Left them engaged and willing to learn! Thank you who ever you are :) Adam
Calmont d'Olt is a dilapidated castle in a very scenic place. Ideal for visiting with a large group.
Beautiful place with activities for the whole family. We don't live in the area but we will definitely plan to come back in a few years to see the restoration.
Lovely view, nice ruins and fun demonstration of trebuchets and cannons by staff. Not suitable for people with mobility problems.
The driveway up to the château is barely one lane and lots of blind turns. There is a 200m uphill walk to the entrance. It is very quiet and a nice stop - the entire castle can be seen in an hour. The views of the surrounding countryside are amazing. Some highlights: The costumes for children to use The different trebuches Guidebooks in different languages Mannequins with armor of the different eras of the castle The views
